Popcorn Ceilings

Has anyone ever tried to scrape off this type of ceiling finish? I’ve seen it done in some do it yourself shows on tv, but fear for what I may find beneath the “popcorn”.

What if the ceiling is not as level as it now appears?

Re: Popcorn Ceilings

We don't have popcorn finishing in our home, we have all mosaic anyhow we (my bro and myself) went on painting one of the room's . I have to say that painting the ceiling was the most difficult part as it was running like in 3-4 different angles and wasn't leveled like the walls, plus we kept missing places with the roller and brush takes too long. I don't know anything about scraping but i will say that ppl on tv make things look lot easier then they actually are.

Re: Popcorn Ceilings

yes...they do make it look easier.....and they have industrial tools....not the light duty stuff that we normally invest in.

I have painted a ceiling before....and it was murder. At least now they have the tinted paint so you know where you've already painted and where you haven't. Plus they have special rollers that are designed to get into all the nooks of textured ceilings so you don't have to go over it a million times.

Muzna, you need a two hour visit to Home Depot on Saturday morning. They have their experts usually for the workshops etc. You can get a good advise from them. I hope you will find all of your questions answered there.
