As a Pakistani, I'll say that yeah Putli Tamasha is definitly a part of our culture.
And due to the media etc, the charm of putli tamasha is fading fast. But fortunately we've some very nice organizations working on keeping this art alive. These organizations go from school to school and instituion from institutions conducting putli tamashas. And I must say, as a kid i enjoyed it immensly :)

Putlian da tamasha asiN taN ajj tak kadE dekhia nahiN. Per tuhadE wangar sunia hai isdE barE. Suposedly, my sisters watched it approximately 35 years ago. But sorry I do not have much to offer on the present state. It appears that there is not much money in the profession so it, although a precious part of culture and history, is inching towards extinction.
Hopefully bhraji Hum Sa Ho To Samne Aaye is right and some organizations can keep this tradition alive.
