Let’s share some bad financial decisions we have made over the years and what lesson was learned from it.
I recently ordered earrings ($90 USD) from Etsy (NZ seller) without reading the shipping policy. Shipping was free for orders over $50. I assumed for something this expensive, seller would be tracking the package. Nope! It was standard shipping and the item got lost in transit.
Lesson learned: Don’t order expensive items without insurance.
One time I got a ticket for parking at one hour parking spot. I was vey ticked off that I didn’t even look at the ticket and just threw it somewhere in my room. Bad mistake! Turns out I had to pay within a certain period, otherwise the fine doubles so in the end, I had to pay 80 dollars for parking 7 minutes over the time limit.
I have ordered stuff on clearance sale online, not realizing that it can’t be exchanged or refunded if let’s say it’s not the right size/look.
Now if I am ever shopping clearance stuff, I get jewelry or household items , etc - basically, things where size wouldn’t be an issue.
Bid on a cheap laptop on Ebay without reading since bidding was almost over, I thought I made a killing then realised the laptop was ancient. And I mean ancient. Piece of crap.
Nothing big but I have wasted a lot of money on my hobbies, which come and go and I become obsessed over them. For example, I have wasted money on buying a lot of makeup because at one point, I was into makeup. I was quite good at it but then my interest faded away. I gave away most of my makeup. I have wasted money on trying to come up with a perfect and natural mehndi paste. I succeeded but now that my obsession has died down a little I don’t care enough to do anything with that mehndi until probably Eid time comes around :D. I bought an expensive Celestron telescope a few years ago and thankfully was able to return it after I became less obsessed with it. I bought an expensive L lens for my DSLR and it’s just sitting somewhere because I am not obsessing over photography right now. I have spent a lot of money on lots of Acrylic paints, brushes, other artist supplies because at one point I wanted to be an artist. I have spent money on tumbled stones, and Psychic crystals, don’t ask why.
While it doesn’t amount to a sh** load of money, it still was a waste to an extent. My husband and pretty everyone is familiar with my “phases” so hubby keeps my spending in check when my brain becomes obsessed with a new hobby. Right now, I am thinking carpentry.
lol theorist, as long as it’s not grand purchases, it’s not too bad.
At one point in time, I was obsessed with buying online deals. I have wasted quite a bit of money on those, as not all deal sites are reputable and not all business honour the coupons as advertised.
I think the worst was dealathons. I bought a babyliss curler ($120). Never received the product. Customer service was awful in responding to the countless messages I left them. Every couple of months they will respond to the email by saying that they are working on shipping the product. Eight months later, I still have no store credit, refund or product. Just found out the site was bought by another and they are not responsible for previous disputes.
Bad customer service. Vague legal language to support their interest only. No consistent or predictable result, if you want to cancel order even within few minutes.
was talked into nail cutting service, got ripped off…and Im a guy
hired a driver paid him for two months then realized i wasn’t even letting him drive
went to london to celebrate new years with a friend, ended up fighting and eventually broke up with her on the new years eve
bought some property in a shady area and now its in dispute because of multiple original files…
