While Ponting said so himself that he is no Bradman when Ponting surpassed his record, I think it is a delight to have such a strong in-form batsman in one's team. Ricky Ponting is one of the top class finds of this era.

Ponting is in a league of his own. While most contemporary batting captains have traditionally suffered poor form (Vaughan, Fleming, Smith), Ponting has ALWAYS delivered when his team has needed him. Only two other batsmen close are Inzi and Dravid.

They are not very close. I was listening on Starnews that in last few matches Dravid's 4th innings average is about 28 while Ponting's is above 60.

Bradman scored his 29 centuries in 52 Tests...and these guys (Tendu, Ponting, Gavaskar etc) scored them in 100+ tests.

That is a hell lot of difference.

Although what a lot of people fail to realise. Back in Bradmans day the bowlers were all part time bowlers. They faced terrible bowling..

Ponting will be the 2nd greatest cricketer of all time.
