Only mods can start a poll, so if you wish to start a poll contact the relevant forum mod.

If members are allowed to then shortly this will become a poll site and lose its charm and luster.

I don't think thats true, if it were then all other forums on the internet would be poll sites too. I think good polls can lead to some good, healthy discussion and mods are there to ensure there aren't any mindless polls for the sake of polls.
