What is the appropriate solution to the present crisis in Baluchistan?
I dunno if I agree with any of the choices presented here ... the solution should involve the regular people who are affected by these decisions... Can't give in to the separatists nor a crack down or military option with yield any positive long term solution... Have to find out the root cause of their issues and have to genuinely listen and respond to their concerns ... by their I mean the general masses ... understand and appreciate the issues at hand instead of applying a solution first...
1) separate the concerns of an avg baluchi from the demands of the tribal cheiftains and warlords
2) address the needs of baluchi people, develop a thorough solution and get their buy in.
3) sideline the tribal chiefs who have had only their own interests and pocketbooks in mind.
Fraduia, I think a more balanced approach should be taken with mixing the three points you mentioned. I don’t agree to this approach where you totally disregard the local social structure. This approach would not work even if we try this in areas like Jahang or in the Naroawal belt with the Chaudries. In an era of non-representation, people would naturally develop grievances, and especially if there is no one to listen to the injustice, the very first line of defense they develop are these chieftains and Chaudries. So it would be a mistake to separate the people in this way.
There is a history of separation practiced by the federal authorities who never trusted the local people in decision-making, this has to change.
I agree that just because of few bad apples you cannot just mistrust all the Bloch tribes. The federal govt has to strike a balance in between the tribes and the large group of investors who doesn’t want any Blochi share in the profit they are making out of Blochistan.
So at the end its a fight between the rich and poor and the authorities siding with the rich, the federal govt has to change this attitude.
Recently there has been a series of interviews published in Jang, I assume by Mr. Haqani, on this issue. It had a very balanced approach and it’s a good read on this issue.

Minime, those were not mutually exclusive options but 3 prongs of a successful approach.
as far as disregarding the local social strcture, Involve them for sure, but know how to use them and how to use them as conduits to find a fair solution but not be blackmailed into appeasement of the chieftains.
Just wondering how many brain cells got consumed for designing this poll. I mean what the heck are these questions for?
Grant autonomy to Balochistan
Negotiate a comprehensive solution with Balochi nationalists
Launch a full scale military operation and root out militants
Make the Balochistan government crackdown
...
This surely looks like questions leading to Al-Janaza (the funeral) of the area. Will the Pushtoon suffering ever end? How many Mullah Omers and Gulbadan have to be born and then killed.
Why certain lucknavi Khans so adamant on spilling the blood of Pushtoons?
People have some shame!
Minerva and Zakk, I urge you to change the survey questions towards peace and prosperity of the region. Please no more anarchy in Pakistan. I beg you guys.
The questions that truly needs to be asked are not why's but How's:
How many scholarships for the Baloch-Shias killed in the violence?
How many miles of Baloch motorways in the next 5 years?
How many International Universities should be planned for Quetta?
How many cancer hospitals (international standard) in Ziarat?
Or questions about Baloch contribution of money and land for making Balochistan more prosperous like:
How many acres of land Sardar Bugti should give for the Baloch International College?
How much Sardar Mangel will donate for establishing elementary schools.
How many villages Sardar Murri will donate for tax free industrial zone?
Don't tell me Sardars of Balochistan are poor. That will simply be a cop out.
