Poll on Euthanasia

If you were reduced to a vegetative state (being brain dead and kept alive medically) who would you want to decide whether you live or die?

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

I don't think any of my loved ones as their judgement might be clouded by emotions. I would specify in my will beforehand as to the course of action, should that situation arise.

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

Where's the 'no one' option? What if you already have written a will that says nobody can decide my life/death but me?

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

I should be making that decision .. in my will, like I already have and when the Dr says pull the plug everyone else should concur.

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

spouse :p

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

Its a hard hard decision...but to live helplessly is even more difficult...for both the sick person and others around them.

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

well, one can't be brain dead and still be in a vegatative state for an unknown period of time. A brain dead person is clinically dead, and if not all, most of the hospitals remove patients from life support. Brain damaged is another thing, where a person is not "clinically dead". While in this stage, I don't think anyone should have the right to remove patient from life support..

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

Allah :-)

and none of the above.

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

Obviously Unmarried children will rely on parents to make the decision for them. This poll is incomplete without the martial status of the participant, thier age, education level, and profession.

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

do u live in holland????

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

Schiavo lives in holland?

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

No, she lives in Florida.

I don't know what I would do .... if they think there is hope for me to stay alive, I guess I would ask them to keep me on life support. Otherwise, I would leave it up to my parents.

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

God

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

If I were in that kind of miserable state then I would rather die. Your spouse is the one with whom you promise to share your life…the decision should come from the spouse.
However, if I am the one making the decision then I wouldn’t ask to remove the life support unless the patient has a formal will.

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

I know where she lives. I wanted bu abdu to clarify the holland issue.

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

Not only would I not want to live, I'd prefer any tissue and organs possible, recycled.

I find the fixation with a life without purpose, a little materialistic. Isn't there supposed to be a hereafter (a better place).

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

Gizzy :k:

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

:k:

And I ditto that!

Re: Poll on Euthanasia

So I guess I'm the only one that voted for my child to pull the plug. I wonder now if that's even fair to do....I mean put such a huge responsibility on her. Hmpf, why not? We make huge, life changing decisions for our kids....they can return the favour, hain na?

In the event that I am reduced to such a state while my child is too young to make such decisions, I think I'll have a living will prepared with a specific person named who will call the shots.
