Politics and circumstance

How much does a persons circumstances (work/home/country/friends) affect his/her global and local political views?

Let’s say for example a person lives in a country on a work visa, or studies on a study visa. Something kicks off (lets say a series of wars targeting a specific group of people globally and locally to some extent), now how much would a person be willing to compromise his/her principles and moral sense if they belonged to the target group and their income/education/health is threatened?

Surely it would be natural for them to fall in line and be the loudest voice of non-opposition to the host government, whether it was guilty of victimisation on a country and individual level or not?

Appreciate all F.O.B. views

Thap, did someone called you Paki again? Get used to it, you live in England and not the West Bank.

Appreciate your view.

I definitely think that is the case. It seems that many people have jumped on the liberal bandwagon of late whose views were radically different pre-911. Unfortunately they overcompensate for their earlier ignorant existence and are easily spotted.

In the end, it is just a matter of being honest with yourself and figuring out whether you would've said the same thing if you didn't depend on your American employer for the next morgtage payment.

I can imagine the daily struggle of morals versus chamcha'ism for some must be like being presented with climbing the north face of the Eiger to others it might be as simple as falling off a boat?

Just because I study here doesn't mean I am going to sell my soul to the US and buy the Bush Administration's bull****.

Too bad we can't say the same for all our esteemed immigrants.

Do you study? no kidding. Holy siht. which community college?

You a role model for democracy and patriotism!

"Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the President."

-- President Theodore Roosevelt

"If your government asks you to trade freedom for security, overthrow that government"

--President Thomas Jefferson

What's that uncle, war crime tribunals in the US? Justice is best served in the heat of the moment but also works retrospectively.

Anyway this is about you guys and not the government, I think we have your views on the principles/morality versus greencard/visa issue.

Thap, personal circumstances (work/home/country/friends) do play a role in my views, though my readings that I try to keep broad do sway my support. A lot has also to do with the way you are brought up. If a person is allowed to hold dissent views in his or her household, they are most likely to explore ideas, otherwise there are many lakeer kay faker
