This is quite unnerving and true and also obvious result.
Political turmoil causing rise in depression, say psychiatrists
The Pakistan Association for Mental Health (PAMH) has expressed its deep concern over the implication of the ongoing political turmoil in the country on patients of depression and certain other mental and psychological problems.
A remarkable increase in the number of new cases has been witnessed in addition to those pertaining to the relapse of such problems in the previously recovered patients over the past few months.
President of the PAMH Prof S. Haroon Ahmed said that the mental health of the common man attributed the situation to the deteriorating law and order, breakdown of civic services and rising cost of living resulting from the political turmoil, observing that the promulgation of the recently enacted laws had an adverse impact on the new and old patients.
“The most worrying aspect is the increasing number of children suffering from depression and mental stress”, he pointed out.
Abdominal pain, vomiting, crying without a reason and refusal to go to schools are some of the common complaints, he said referring to the cases.
“Psychiatrists have been observing incidence of relapse of anxiety, depression and acute psychosis in settled cases,” he noted.
“Insecurity is deepening due to the crippled judicial system and a crackdown on opponents of the government,” he said, urging the rulers to restore citizens’ fundamental rights and the credible judiciary, besides lifting the emergency.

^The hopelessness portrayed by media and prophets of doom. Those getting to see psychiatrists are not the activists but avg citizens who are at home being haunted by negative views & comments 24/7 when there is nothing on the street.
That's what the confusion is.
minor issues are amplified as grave danger.
While real threats are pampered.

Media has been blacked out ever since the emergency, so how can you blame media for portraying hopelessness regarding "emergency"?

That is even more worrisome.
Re: Political turmoil causing rise in depression, say psychiatrists
extremely saddening and severely disappointing is this despised attitude and the apathy due to which, the situation is even more worse when there is no concerted social support system in Pakistan.
depression will obviously be on the rise, since the whole social and economic atmosphere is so volatile and people have families, they have livelihoods to keep.
only if the religious or political fervor was able to restrain itself from causing perpetual damage to the sovereignty of the country.
journalists, academicians, lawyers and students on the one side.
bigoted industrialists and weak farmers on the other.
politicians, police and army on the third.
outside agents of exploitation on all ends,
internal injustices against the weaked groups within the strata of nation, as always.
civil amenities being mis managed.
everyday use items' prices that no one can keep up with.
in education in a greater part of the population.
all of it, will cause depression.
rather than kicking up dirt, would not it be nice for people to be mindful and sensitive and come up with soluation to not allow the breakage in the country and own lives?
best,
Dushwari
