I think Imran khan committed a political suicide by not participating in the elections. He was the champion of all those causes which enabled Nawaz Sharif to get back in lime light. I suppose he must be quietly cursing his decision and reminding himself never again.
I suppose he should try to contest some by elections and try to make his voice heard in the assembly.
I feel sorry for his decision but felt from the day one that change has to come through regular democratic process and not through judiciary alone
i disagree i think the APDM made the supreme sacrfice by boycotting they consolidated the votes behind the mainstream parties guaranteeing the PML-Q defeat. In Punjab and Karachi all the JI + PTI votes went for PML-N-PPP , similarly the PKMAP votes went to ANP.
He can still join the main stream politics by contesting senate election. He will have to shell out 20 karor rupees. That is how much it costed for last senate elections. No ?
actually Zakk he could've hurt MQM in Karachi on some of those close seats, so he helped atleast one Govt party. Farouq Sattar should send him a thankyou note :)
I agree with MKF. IK is effectively a spent force, unless he somehow manages to revive his 90's platform of accountability for Nawaz/PPP, which just isnt credible now that hes been their bosom chum. JI will come back.
Imran Khan must have been regretting. If the elections are really that fair and free. Anyway, i hope this span outside the Assembly may serve right for him and he may improve his political maturity.
He has probably committed political suicide for himself as he is going to b very lucky to get this amount of coverage again. The last 2 years have been very good to Imran Khan and he has won a lot of respect (whether that would have translated into seats is a different issue) and would have got an increase in some votes for sure.
I dont think any Imran Khan supporters would have voted for PML-N, PPP en-masse simply because he appealed to a lot of younger voters who may have been voting for the first time and his supporters were probably more of the "all the others have failed, now lets try this one!" voter. I would guess that a lot of Imran Khan supporters may never have even bothered voting for the already "tried and mis-trusted" brands ie MQM, PML-N, PPP, ANP, MMA, PML-Q.
I personally feel its a big shame that Imran Khan did not take part in the elcection especially since the major parties did not boycott. I can understand why he did nt as no-one would hav expectd this level of fairness but right now he is back to square one. He will build his profile again especially since it wont b long before the PPP and who ever they make a coalition with will start to mess things up again.

How can one participate in elections in a city when he was not even allowed to go there? What difference could've he made if his party were to contest and IK not allowed to visit their constituency?
This was political suicide number 2.
1 was when he refused to join Musharraf in 2002.
He has an honour of committing 2 suicides and letting down those who support/ed him and had/have high hopes from him.
Im sure he knows how much exactly his antiMush friends like PPP, MMA, ANP. PMLN love him. They'd love to destroy him.

Now I am thinking he may not regret. Free and fair elections can help PPPP and PMLN, but not IK. He will lose.
We will see him back sooner or later. I wish him best luck. He has done a lot of blunders last year til elections been held. Hope he understands making deals with JUI will lead to nothing but self-isolation.
