There is a difference between praying for Muslims in Iraq, Muslims in Chechneya and praying for "pakistan".
In the former case the prayers are for our muslim brothers, but in the later case as, as you stated in your initial post, the prayer was for PAKISTAN, period...and that was the decisive factor. It was a nationalist plea on part of the imam.
As far as Palestine is considered, it is a different story all together, since it houses the third holiest site in Islam.
That's exactly what Iwas thinking also. This is the first time I've heard someone request duas for a country. All the duas that include even Palestine as far as I can remember, are more about the Muslims there and not for the country itself .
