you guys must have heard about polio saga going in pak and now travel restrictions also. I am confused about polio vaccination, I followed the health card and according to it we are done wth all dose of vaccination, now in pak every year you give drops to kids. do you follow the health card or polio drops every year, wht to do?
Re: polio vaccination
I’m not certain but I believe this depends on which polio vaccine the child received. There are two polio vaccines: inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) (Salk vaccine), which is given by injection, and oral polio vaccine (OPV) (Sabin vaccine), which are the drops. IPV is the vaccine used in most western countries. The OPV is often used in third world countries due to the reduced cost and ease of administration.
The OPV is sometimes less potent in inducing immunity in the serum because, as intake occurs through the intestines, intestinal infections by other viruses may prevent the intake of the vaccine. As a result, the OPV often needs more doses and repeated vaccinations to provide immunity.
I think the best thing would be to ask your pediatrician. ![]()
Re: polio vaccination
I have used the immunisation card and polio drops both. as the govt campaign says “har abcha har baar” and this is what her dr told me too.
but this what we follow living in Pakistan , don’t know about UAE.
The drops are to be given in each polio campaign as it makes a cycle and develops immunity.
