Police Ripped Off Muslim Girl's Hijab

I mean what the hell… What can we possibly do to prevent these issues? So disgusting..

WASHINGTON: The trial of Rehana Khan, a Muslim girl of Pakistani-descent from Illinois who had her headscarf or hijab ripped off after she and several others were arrested for civil disobedience while protesting at a rally for immigrant rights last year, has finally been scheduled for April 25.

A group of five young people - white, Latino, Muslim - are facing up to four years in jail for a protest against the racist vigilante group the Minutemen.

Two Illinois state attorneys have reportedly refused to discuss a plea without jail time. Their case goes to trial on April 25, according to the New Jersey-based website DesPardes, quoting the Council for American Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Rehana, while being led to a police squad car, reportedly informed an officer that the way in which she was being handled was causing extreme pain - actions from which she obtained bruises and scars - and requested that the officer ease her grip.

The officer responded by stating, “No, that’s what you get,” and then remarked, “Take that off” and violently pulled off her hijab. At the police station, Rehana was made to take off her hijab again and was searched by a female and male officer without her hijab on.

After the search, the female officer tried to give the hijab back to her but the male officer stopped her, saying that there was nobody at the station to look at her, while adding that the practice of wearing the hijab was a “fashion statement”.

The detainee was then kept in lock up without being permitted to wear her hijab. CAIR-Chicago will be meeting representatives of the village of Arlington Heights to discuss this instance of police misconduct.

Re: Police Ripped Off Muslim Girl's Hijab

as soon as I heard CAIR, i know nothing will come off it.. as long as Muslims let these impotent organizations represent them.. their scarves AND dhotis will be yanked off of them and they would just be helpless witnesses to it..

Re: Police Ripped Off Muslim Girl's Hijab

Wow, that's ridiculous. There should definitely be an inquiry as to the police officer's conduct. Obviously, he's letting his personal opinions interfere with his job. Pathetic!

Re: Police Ripped Off Muslim Girl's Hijab

What a loser!

Re: Police Ripped Off Muslim Girl's Hijab

It hurts...honestly it does!walks out of this thread.....

Re: Police Ripped Off Muslim Girl's Hijab

I think its possible that some of our erstwhile members will walk into this thread and suggest that since the lady-in-question may be protesting without a mehram, and that the article does not provide full details so we should not rush to judgement.

In addition, it is likely that one of them will point out that muslim women should remain in their homes and not participate in street protests anyway, so the lady was commiting haraam acts to start with. Thus its futile to complain about police brutality which occured as a result.

What puzzles me is why this muslim lady was protesting about the stupid immigration issue. First of all, its not gonna end up with anything, and more importantly, its not like any break given to our dear *amigos *from South of the border (Mexicans) will be spread out to browns from Asia. If any muslim thinks that their sorry arses will be given amnesty along with Mexicans, then they are much bigger fool than anyone can give them credit for.

Faisal bhai: thora sa khatoon se hamdardi bhee dikha dete :p, thora so Police kee muzammat bhee kar lete :naraz:

Re: Police Ripped Off Muslim Girl's Hijab

I always wonder how the crusaders have the gall to say muslim countries oppress religous minorities. It seems everywhere you go muslims are being victimized by christians, jews, hindoos, buddhist ets. Hopefully the ummah wakes up one day and realizes whats being done to muslims worldwide.

Lets see how quick human rights groups and the "secular" UN take up this case vs the speed they gave publicity to that afghan hypocrite.

Re: Police Ripped Off Muslim Girl's Hijab

^ SyedAbduallah, don't you want to find out the identification of her mehram, before asking for ummah to wake up?

Re: Police Ripped Off Muslim Girl's Hijab

That should be a non-issue to muslims if a muslim is being oppressed by a non-muslim. Stay focused please.

Re: Police Ripped Off Muslim Girl’s Hijab

What puzzles me is why should it matter to you what she was doing? She could be out there marching for gay rights and marriage for all anyone cares…It is supposed to be a free country with the right to congregate…

Unless you are of the belief that Muslims don’t have the right to congregate…

What’s being discussed here is what happened to her…And what happened to her is wrong…

I am sure you all remember the classic footage of an Afghan man herding women and how again and again that picture is displayed everytime someone talks of Taliban…

Will we be hearing about this incident on CNN or Fox?

I doubt it…

But, you can bet we will be seeing that 5 year old footage from Afghanistan again and again and again…

It’s the same as, how many times do you see footage of bombs, ‘supposedly’ set off by Muslims? Hundreds of times…

How many times on the news are you shown the effects of a bunker buster or a diasy cutter in the middle of a neighbourhood? Did CNN or Fox show pictures of what happened in Fallujah?

This is supposed to be expected and it will increase…

Re: Police Ripped Off Muslim Girl's Hijab

Seems like she is not the only one arrested from that march. Others were too, but we are only talking about her because she is a muslim and her hijab was torn off. Thats all shameful, ofcourse. However, the fact that others were arrested as well, suggests that the protestors broke some law or rules, hence the police action. No one here is focusing on that point, because we are more enraged about the hijab being torn off.

And since this is a discussion forum, so its also ok to to talk about what got her in that position (you can choose not to participate in this discussion, ofcourse). And thats where the urdu proverb of "Paraii shaadi mein Abdullah dewana" seems appropriate in this case. Anyway, go ahead and break the rules, mess with the police etc. You can even chant "I love Osama" right in the middle of New York's Central Park, because apparently the right to freedom of speech is also guaranteed in US constitution. I am sure once you are arrested, CAIR will issue a few statements to support you as well.
