Police re-arrest Zardari

I guess Zardari was trying his best to get back in jail :hehe:

Pakistan police re-arrest Zardari

Mr Zardari was released from jail last month
Police in Pakistan have re-arrested Asif Ali Zardari, the husband of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
Mr Zardari was detained at Islamabad airport on the orders of a court after he failed to attend a hearing in a murder trial in the city of Karachi.

Police fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of Mr Zardari’s supporters who had gathered at the airport.

He was freed on bail last month after eight years in jail on charges of corruption and conspiracy to murder.

Observers say the release may have been part of moves by the government to end its long stand-off with Pakistan’s secular opposition.

‘Undemocratic’

Judge Pir Ali Shah of the special anti-terrorism court in Karachi cancelled Mr Zardari’s bail on Tuesday after he did not turn up in court.

The way they have cancelled the bail clearly shows that they are scared of my popularity

Asif Ali Zardari

He is accused of involvement in the killing of a judge and his son in Karachi in 1996 - charges he denies.

Mr Zardari had travelled to the Pakistani capital to address a political rally. When he arrived at the airport, police produced a warrant for his arrest.

“We are going to challenge this - I have been in prison and I know these tactics,” Mr Zardari told the BBC’s Urdu service by mobile phone while his lawyers checked the warrant.

He asked what right the authorities had to prevent him from attending a public meeting.

“I condemn this undemocratic step. It’s against my basic right of movement.”

Earlier, he told the AFP news agency that the cancellation of his bail showed the government “are scared of my popularity”.

The BBC’s Zaffar Abbas at Islamabad airport says the authorities may have been unnerved by the reception Mr Zardari has received from opposition supporters since his release.

Corruption charges

Last month Mr Zardari was released from detention in hospital in Karachi, where he was being treated for various ailments.

Benazir Bhutto has lived abroad since 1997
Soon after his release he said he would work to “galvanise democracy” in Pakistan.

Benazir Bhutto, who also faces corruption charges in Pakistan, was twice prime minister and still leads the Pakistan People’s Party.

Her governments were dissolved in 1990 and 1996 for alleged corruption.

She went into self-imposed exile in 1999.

They should give him the keys so he can come in and out at his own recognizance.

Well, i think he shld have taken this all a bit slow. The moment he came out he seemed ready to call the shots. And i don't think what the government did is right either, khamkhawa main hero bana diya isko bhi...

What credibility does the military regime has left now?

i dont get what all this drama is for

all i care abt is: there was a traffic jam in all the main roads of khi leading to the airport coz of this yesterday and that made me late

zardari jail mein ho ya ghar pe sanu ki

Sindh High Court releases Zardari again on bail. news alert

WHAT?

does that mean another traffic jam URGH

Somebody is not coordinating with the courts. Anyway, at the end of the day some ASP from Pindi will transferred and the issue would be over.

from what i heard he was released on 3 lakh rupees bail..hmm

The whole thing sounds and looks pretty bad. Specially from the world perspective.
Cant they even arrest someone in a nice quiet way?

This is really hilarious....This guy has no role in Pakistani politics....he has already created a Dilemma in Pakistani society of Corruption & "loot Khasoot"....& some people in the govt. insist on making him a big issue....my words:kick him out of Pakistan & let him live with his corrupt wifey in Dubai....

No one has any right to kick any Pakistani out of Pakistan. Certainly not those who have destroyed democracy and the constitution.

I agree with that, they should have a fair trail and then have them put in jail for a good 10-20 years. Instead of this trump card non-sense that Musharraf keeps playing. But then we're talking about the ideal Pakistan. In the real Pakistan you either kill them or exile them or they'll do nothing but cause you trouble.

saw him on TV yesterday after a long long time and was stunned..

i never thought i would ever say this but somehow the poor guy looked like a fallen man and i literally felt sad for him..his hair was all white…he looked kinda weak/ill…

these years in jail have really changed him!

he wasn’t even speaking in his loud and bombastic way..he was kinda speaking slowly…

i was happy to see that atleast he was still making negative remarks abt the govt :hehe:

seriously felt sorry for Mr 10 % after seeing him on TV yesterday
