'Police raid on Java militants'

**At least three people have been killed during a police operation against suspected militants on the island of Java, reports from Indonesia say. **The reports say armed police raided a house in the outskirts of the central city of Solo that is believed to be a militant stronghold.

Witnesses say they heard an explosion and gunfire coming from the house.

Some reports say the target was an associate of the wanted militant, Noordin Mohammed Top.

Indonesian police have not confirmed the raid.

Noordin is believed to be the leader of a group blamed for two bomb attacks that killed seven people in the capital, Jakarta, in July.
