This is a little old news and many of you might already know, but i think it’s worth while to make everyone aware, especially now that the FDA has taken notice of it. Admin can you please make this sticky
A couple of years back, the Chicago Tribune tested of over 40 brands of whitening creams for mercury. Stillman’s bleach cream was found to have the HIGHEST concentration of mercury than any other cream tested with almost 3% mercury content (see here: Mercury content of skin-lightening creams – ChicagoTribune.com). This quantity is enough to cause severe kidney damage and other major health issues. After this investigation, several states including Minnestona,Virgina, and California conducted their own results and found similar results.
Stillman’s bleach cream is officially banned in Germany btw. since they also found dangerous levels of mercury in it.
I became a little curious about the origins of the company and did some research. What i found was that Stillman Co Inc was founded in Aurora IL in 1908 and sold whitening creams. Here’s a really old ad from the company
The company is still actively registered in the USA at this address : 323 E Galena Blvd Aurora, IL,60505.After the ban of mercury in cosmetics, the money hungry owner of the company Robert K Bereman set up a company in Pakistan to have it manufactured and sold there while he kept the company registered in the USA and profited from the sales in Pakistan. This douche bag also owns another company called Macfee Manufacturing which had several air safety violations in the 90s for which they settled a huge law suite ( see more info here : Tribune Investigation Finds Mercury-Laced Skin Creams : CJR).
when an investigator for the Chicago Tribune contacted Bereman, he basically lied through his teeth. He told the reporter that when he found out about the mercury in the cream, and notified the FDA. When the reporter reached out to the FDA , no such complaint had been made.
I guess i am getting really off topic here. My real purpose was to educate the ladies on this forum to stay away from this poison trap, but in the middle of my research, I unearthed additional information which had made me REALLY mad. Pakistan is getting a lot of heat by the FDA on Stillman’s bleach cream but the real culprits are sitting in the USA, right under their noses. Those @$$holes also need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible!

Incidently the Chicago Tribune also tested Arche Pearl Cream. This is the same cream that was part of the famous whitening formula from the nineties of mixing Arche + stillmans. There was no mercury found in Arche. I find it interesting because at the time everyone thought that Arche was probably the toxic one of the two.

Counterfeits of Stillman’s cream have mercury in it. Now Stillman’s team is aggressively countering operations of these fraudulent suppliers & evidence to this is a press release in Emirates247.com

^ So while Stillman's is trying to deal with the counterfit products......what should consumers do? How is a consumer supposed to know whether or not the product they're buying is original or fake?
Also, the article posted by dooree refers to issues in the U.S......while your article discusses this being dealt with in UAE. Do you have any articles stating that they're working with U.S. authorities?

So they are playing the "counterfeit" card! I don't buy that for a minute and I'll tell you why. Back when i was a teenager, I bought the authentic stillman's cream (with the glowy authenticity sticker on it) and within 2-3 weeks of continuous use, my skin dropped 5 shades. No other cream by a reputable company like loreal/shieshdo/nivea has ever been able to match those results. Even prescription strength hydroquinone (4%) by obagi didn't come close to the results of stillman's.
So i really think stillman's has always had mercury as their secret ingredient. You have to remember that mercury was the only whitening ingredient before its ban so we know that it is very very effective. bottom line is stillman's is in damage control and is shifting blame!

Arche, Retin A, Stillmans and Betnovate were being mixed and used as 'lightening' creams in most salons in Pakistan. Since they contain retinol and steroids it thinned out the skin and revealed tiny blood vessels that gave the impression of a 'glowing fair' complexion. Women later found-out that their skin turned dark, and patchy and the damage was irreversible.

Original Stillman's products always have silver colored sticker (hologram) on it. When you tilt the Stillman’s pack gently to the left and right, the hologram of a moving, smiling face, and the registered trademark of Stillman’s along with the patent is your guarantee of a genuine product.

Press released was published in UAE based website but Stillman's is countering such operation worldwide.
