Lately I have noticed that many of the so called political discussions on GEO and ARY seem to focus mainly on getting 2-3 politcal personalities from different parties and make them fight on air…
Frankly, its both distasteful and pathetic. I do not understand why some of the journalists feel that just to increase their popularity they must make politicians fight on TV so people can laugh on them, and simply get more frustrated in political process.,
Do they realise that by organzing such pointless discussions all they are doing is discouraging the people and promoting an image that polticians are no good for anything else other than fighting with eachother…
Surely a responsible journalist would focus more on organzing a meaningful, civilized and balanced discussion… They should also realize that many times these channels are being watched by people from other countries also, and what image of Pakistan are we porjecting by these pointless bickering on TV? Frankly I am fed up with all this nonsense.
Shahid Masood and Hamid Mir seem to be doing this all the time, and guys let me tell you that its getting up the nose, and contrary to what you may think people are actually becoming dis-illusioned from all this and flipping their channels.
Would the others posting on this board agree, or do you think I am over-reacting?
( Forgive me but I really do had better expectations from Media in pakistan)

i think controversy sells. this is evident through our love for reality tv in north america... as well as talk shows like jerry springer, etc.
we love it when people fight, don't we? after all, didn't we all gather around in a circle back in elementary school when two of the kids from class were fighting? lol...
i dont think the aim of these talk shows is to actually promote and encourage political reform in pakistan. they are merely attempts at increasing viewership on the stations.
i don't necessarily blame the media for attempting to provoke these types of shows-- rather, i would hope that the politicians that come on try to act mild-mannered and at least a little educated to promote their perspectives.
these shows result in two things
1) the viewer gets a lot of entertainment
2) the politician ruins their public image and persona because of their jahil-pana.

Few days ago that Iftikhar guy from Jawab Deh on Geo had Kharr on his show. Throughout the discussion he kept showing Kharr written records and evidence of numerous controversial statements issued by him regarding a no of issues over the decades and he balatantly denied most of them. He even denied some statement of his he had recorded in a court!
Iftikhar is hawk and his last sentence was a brilliant smack on kharrs face- he said;
"shukriya...aur aaj ke baad app kahin ye to nahi kahen ge humari ye mulaqat kabhi hui hi nahi...!?"
Kharr tried to mumble a few words but the camera signed off.
I think these journalists are doing a fine job showing us the real faces, the true stories.

Well, While I agree that exposing the truth is one of the objectives of Media but Frankly I think it is also possible to do so in a civilized way.
As far as Jerry Springer is concerned, I dont think he does political shows aimed at reform he is simply a nigh time show for fun. I do think however that serious shows involving discussions on National Issues should be much more civilized than Jerry Spinger......
Why cant we have civilized and meaningful discussions...... If the Media wont do it, who else?

its not the host who is making the politicians behave in an idiotic way, its the politicians...they need to be able to communicate and to make their point.
I have seen some of these ppl to be hotheaded, irrational, emotional, rude, crude and socially screwed folks who I dont trust to represent Pakistans interests in the world media..imagine if they had to be o TV here or to have a debate with an indian minister on kashmir issue in some world forum..
these guyes cant make a point. I am glad that we have such shows becuase it shows the lack of diplomatic skills, civility and intellect of these ass clowns
