Re: Point to Ponder
Soon we wouldn't need surgeons, we can have nanodrones instead.
Re: Point to Ponder
hahaha you have that? :D
No, I have an earlier model. I bought an Oral-B power toothbrush around 8 years ago when the basic model cost around $100.
I've been waiting to get a fancy new top-of the range model. But since I work at the company that makes Oral-B, it would help the value of my stock options a little if all of you would go out and buy the most expensive Oral-B products.
See? Help a brother out!
Re: Point to Ponder
you would know ![]()
they are already inserting robots in our blood streams ![]()
uhuh. wanna lower the price and make the toothbrush less dorky? :aq:
Re: Point to Ponder
human are going to be an endangered species...the machines are going to take over.
Re: Point to Ponder
no we're not. we'll find a way to double triple our populations.
now insects. them taking over the world i can believe.
Re: Point to Ponder
Maybe we will triple the population but the machines will be able to the jobs we do now a lot efficiently and we won't need so many people.
Re: Point to Ponder
machines need someone to conceptualize them. to make them better.
Re: Point to Ponder
With enough artificial intelligence they can do that all by themselves. Even now computers are used in all cutting edge researches. Even if you still need the brightest 1% what about the billions of others out there.
Re: Point to Ponder
robots can't necessarily observe nature, and make something that is similar and better to it. you need the human brain for that. no matter how much AI you put in a machine, it still doesn''t have the creativity that we are blessed with.
Re: Point to Ponder
At the moment it is difficult for us to think about the robots doing the things that we are doing. Robots are used but the carry out specialised roles at the moment and are overseen by humans. But if someone had said 200 years ago that there will be a man on the moon, we people could communicate all over the world in real time. I wouldn't have believed it. The technology is moving at a lot faster pace then we as humans can evolve. The law of the jungle is that the fittest survives but for how long will be the most intelligent. Even now in some western countries populations are on the decline. If that trend takes place in poorer countries then human population will peak soon.
Re: Point to Ponder
the reason the population is declining in some countries isn't based on the survival of the fittest. it's got to do with not making babies. people are too worked up over having careers and making money. but there is plenty of population around the world to counteract the decline. the poorer countries make babies. that's why some of the eastern countries are overflowing with people. the only way that isn't going to happen is if some meteor hits the planet and wipes out the population significantly, all around the world. anyone's who has studied the basic laws of evolution knows that part of surviving is intelligence. you can have all the claws and thorns and horns, but if you're not smart enough to use it, you don't stand a chance. even in a natural disaster, if the one that survives is able to use its intelligence will survive, even if it doesn't have a lot of tools. at the same time, every organic entity in the history of the world has had its day. amphibians, reptiles, insects, birds and now mammals but most importantly humans. but...it's been the organic creatures. that's how the world works. rocks and metals are for our usage, but not for taking over us organics.
Re: Point to Ponder
Whatever the reasons for population decline..it is a fact. As the economies of the developing world grow the same thing will happen there. Population will peak at some stage in theis century. Ok we are not going to be literally extinct but I think we will rely more and more on machines in the future. We are already using machines. The only difference will be the machines of the future will have intelligence.

I am going home now. Lets have your input Kamran.
Re: Point to Ponder
I think you both are on two different tracks, different they may sound, but in reality heading to the same conclusion. when questioning AI’s creativity, dun forget the CREATIVITY of the person who is behind it, as an AI is merely a reflection of ideas of some human brain. when talking about population decline and development, why forget that all ADVANCEMENT in science and economics is more like a seesaw battle between different regions.
pick any history book, it’s all there… :o
Re: Point to Ponder
Imagine if Gupshup had artificial intelligence. Then you wouldn't need mods.
