Mustafa Zaidi died at the age of forty. Murder or suicide, jury is still out on that.

It would be interesting for many to know what NFP said about his death:

He was right. It was only after his tragic and dramatically enacted death that Zaidi became the widely hailed poet he always desired to be. His collections suddenly started to sell big. But, unfortunately, the man behind the now famous poems was not there to experience his own rise. How could he be? It was a rise he knew could only be achieved by killing himself in a way both the press and poetry fans would ‘appreciate.’ "

This was condemned and clarified by Mustafa Zaidi’s niece in strong words:

I would like to conclude by also responding to Mr.Nadeem F.Paracha’s post above wherein he has stated that " It was a rise he knew could only be achieved by killing himself in a way, both the press and poetry fans would appreciate". He was murdered under tragic circumstances at the very young age of thirty nine leaving behind a young family he was very fond of. Yes, Shahnaz Gul was his mistress and he was momentarily enchanted with her (or more correctly, she was used as a pawn to ensnare and remove him) but letters that he and his wife exchanged till the last day of his life are a proof of the fact that none of the details stated above have an iota of truth in them.
