My first digital camera was Canon S200. I changed it with a heavier Canon S2 IS a year ago but gave it to my brother in law recently…I’m looking for a digicam again and this time I want something that can fit into my pocket but I’m afraid I won’t find anything like my old S2 IS…I loved the 12x optical zoom and the quality of photos it produced. Does anyone here know any pocket sized cam that offers high optical zooming and takes excellent photos? My budget is $250-300(US). I’ll be using this cam mostly outdoors both with or without sunlight.
Re: Pocket sized digicams - which one to buy?

If you like Canon's then take a look at the SD series. I have the SD400 and love it.

I love Canon. I ended up buying SD1000....Haven't used it yet but I'm pretty sure it's a great camera.

bump
CA how is the SD1000 treating ya? I'm looking into getting that one as well but not sure. the SD 8 something looks good as well.
Re: Pocket sized digicams - which one to buy?
it's a good camera, takes very colorful pics but it does have a redeye problem...indoor pics don't turn out so well. If most of your pics are going to be indoor or at night then you definitely want to avoid it.

ooo
what about the flash? that doesn’t help at all?

Sony doesn't offer more than 3x optical zoom in pocket size, otherwise I would have recommended you. I have compared same specs, same genre and same pictures taken of same place, indoor and outdoor. Among Sony, Canon and Nikon, picture quality, clarity and color wise, Sony stood out as winner. In picture quality Canon was close, but lacked colors and clarity. They were not pocket cameras though, but a generation before. No matter how delicate Sony is, I will buy it again and this time it would be either DSLR or HD Video recorder with builtin 3.2 MP or better still camera with 20x optical and 30 GB HDD. The vids will be cool on 1080P LCD resolution.
