PML-Q to contest elections jointly with Allies

Divisions within the ruling party and coalition have rapidly increased since the attempted storming of the Supreme Court oops attempted coup against the CJ.

Apparently Farooq Leghari, Hamid Chatta and other PML leader stayed away from the rent a rally in Islamabad because they are unhappy with the reference.

Akhtar Kanju, who comes from southern Punjab and is a member of the National Assembly, emerged as the leader of the ‘rebels’ while Syed Tanveer Hussian,Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, turned up to be the main person behind the campaign.

Well-placed sources told The News here on Tuesday that a day earlier the most vocal members told Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and president of the party Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain that it would be hard for them to sit with the people whose ‘hands are stained with blood’ of innocent people of Karachi.

Shujaat told the president that he had talked to MQM chief Altaf Hussain about the situation the same evening and sympathised with him on the killing of MQM workers. He tried his level best to defend the MQM and its role in the meeting, the sources said.

The Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and its coalition partners will contest the elections from a joint platform and will again come to power on the basis of their performance, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said on Monday.

ISLAMABAD: In order to eliminate the emerging differences between Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and its ally MQM in the aftermath of recent tragic Karachi riots, President General Pervez Musharraf has asked Tariq Aziz, Secretary for National Security Council to play his due role to bring both the parties closer to each other, sources confided.

Highly placed sources told The Post on Wednesday that Tariq Aziz has been assigned the vital task of bridging successfully the gap between the two sides before the upcoming meeting of the National Security Council.

Soon after the Karachi incident, differences erupted between the top brass of PML and rankers of MQM which gave the opportunity to the opposition parties to criticise the government and MQM for mishandling the CJP arrival in Karachi which reflected badly on the image of the government.

Tariq Aziz is expected to visit Karachi soon to meet MQM leadership in order to know the ‘actual facts’ behind the Karachi incident and to bring the PML and MQM at peace with each other and to put an end to the blame game heating up between the allied parties. Casting aside the blame game that is going on between opposition parties and MQM, Tariq Aziz would try to play a positive and pro-active role after receiving and perusing a comprehensive report from law enforcement agencies.

Sources said the top leadership of MQM has received life threats from some unknown callers and they have informed the presidency about their concerns. On the immediate directive of presidency the security has been beefed up around the top leadership of the MQM, sources added.

If a free and fair elections are held in 4 months time, this coalition stands no chance.
