LAHORE: Irked by a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP-funded) TV ad containing conversation between Punjab former chief minister Shahbaz Sharif and former Lahore High Court (LHC) judge Malik Abdul Qayyum, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has approached the Election Commission to seek a ban on the “vilification campaign” aimed at the Sharifs.
PML-N senator and incharge of party’s central election cell Ishaq Dar has written to the ECP, drawing its attention towards a “smear” campaign being run by the PPP against the Sharifs through some “fabricated” and “false” contents in TV ads.
He has demanded the ECP ban broadcast of the material and take action against those responsible for it.
In the ad, Shabbaz is seeking undue favour in a case fixed before Justice Qayyum, who responds in the positive.
Shahbaz then says barray mian sahib (Nawaz) has also asked for the favour.
Dar argues that Shahbaz has denied contents of the conversation and regrets that the electronic media also failed to check veracity of the contents and thus violated the code of conduct the ECP has set for the media.
This ad has grabbed the lion from its tail as the PP hunts down two ‘lions’ with one arrow. These are the people who would enforce across-the-board rule of law?

LHC stops airing of anti-Shahbaz PPP advertisement **
LAHORE: A full bench of Lahore High Court on Friday restrained the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) from telecasting on television channels a paid content by PPP containing a reported conversation between Shahbaz Sharif and Justice (r) Malik Muhammad Qayyum. The bench also sought a reply on the issue from PEMRA today (Saturday). It issued the direction on a petition moved by former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif.
He said that the content of the video aired on most of the channels has specifically been denied by Shahbaz and had also not been confirmed or verified through any independent source.
He said that through the paid content the PPP was trying to create adverse image of the petitioner in the public at large. He further requested that the PPPP and Pakistan Broadcasting Association be restrained from telecasting the advertisements against Shahbaz Sharif.
What CRAP!! It was not vilifying at all...it was the TRUTH..ofcoz the itty bitty little wittle "angel", who is suppose to be the "servant" of the ppl couldn't take it...He probably went and had a minor heart attack when he heard himself!!
And they call themselves SHAIRS....more like Geedars!
I don't think this is a major issue for people who are going to vote for PMLN what SS said to the judge 15 years ago. PMLN is the front runner today in Punjab because people think SS has performed in his five year term.. compared to pathetic PPP performance in the center..

yes the tragedy is that the people have forgotten how during three stints in the govt they looted the country and did jack all for it. I remember the same people of Punjab distributing mithai when Musharraf overthrew them . They will be doing the same in two years time if nawaz family league comes into power. We as a nation love mediocrity. The judge has probably forgotten what NS and his goons did to the SC when they were last in power.

Very true Ehsan bhai.. People of Pakistan are just happy with mediocracy after 5 years of pathetic PPP rule. The prefer mediocracy over disaster.. As the election predictions are coming (FT has termed Pakistan elections as a done deal in favor of PMLN).. it's clear that for the time being people do not want to experiment anything new. it will be great for Pakistan in the long term if there is a real challenge from PTI as opposition for next five years against mediocracy. I hope they do well in coming elections.. even if they could become the second largest party in the parliament.. it will be the best thing happening to Pakistan in years.
