PM wants scientists to send Indian on the Moon

is it response to planned chinese manned mission to outerspace?

is it worth wasting mony unless some benefits from theis venture.

this is a noble objective for sometime in future when we can establish some benefits for doing so. Right now we cannot afford it - atleast to do it using the kind of engineering and technology in vogue for space travel.

One never knows though - may be we'll invent a real cheap way to get there. May be build robots to do the moonwalk. Atleast this will pump some money into robotics.

Funny thing is US and USSR have stopped sending people to moon. What for? Who in India had this dream?

Hope ABV is not succumbing to a kennedy complex

"PM wants scientists to send Indian on the Moon."

Lot's of Pakistani's praying for a really, really, really big rocket, and a one way ticket......

How long before Pakistan also will announce plans to send its people to the moon?

But I can't see it happening, since they can't even send water to my house.

Sounds Nice but is it necessary

Maybe feeding the poor and hungry is a more worthy cause since the moon landing has already or allegedly already been done by america.

Copying other nations is not an achivement doing something new and productive is!

I do not understant what Indians have to do on moon, when the advanced countries long back stopped manly visits there.

manly visits? LOL
Well, India can send their bolywood hotties to the moon for womanly visits :D And in the process they can scientifically confirm if a certain hottie really has "chaand sa chehra" :D

send Advani for a test visit..

What IS the point of these space missions? Is there something that the Chinese or Indians will gain from them for example?

Xtreme, there’s difference between “space” and “lunar” explorations. You are right in Lunar sense, but space exploration can open up a lucrative market for Indians and Chinese to launch commercial satellites into the orbit.

While Pakistanis are worried about the welfare of the Old Lady who spins wheel on the Moon, Indians are actually doing something about it.

Move to India coz there every house has a faucet now they will have one on the moon too. They may even send u too the moon.. if they do not wake up from their day dream.....

NYA, in the linked article Vajpayee seems to be focusing more on sending a man to the moon like it's some sort of milestone.

==========================================

Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee said Monday the country's scientists should work towards sending a man on the moon.

"Our scientific development should be strong enough that we realise our dream of sending a man on the moon and not just keep wishing for it," Vajpayee said at an education conference in Mumbai.

The Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) has said it plans to launch a mission to the moon by 2007, but ruled out sending an astronaut on the maiden voyage.

K Kasturirangan, chairman of the ISRO, Monday said a manned mission to outer space would divert resources from other important activities.

"We have our priorities. A manned mission to outer space would not be in commensuration with it," he told The Hindu.

If it's linked to commercial satellites then it makes a lot more sense.

linking major rivers to be started soon this look much more promising
and eliminate chronic water shortage. this scheme is much tougher
but practical.

And Modi Also...

Seriously..This is waste of money.

no need to send Modi and Advani to the moon really..put em on your everyday cookie cutter rocket (prithvi will do) and fire it straight up :)

Be sure to remove all landing mechanisms if any...like the parachutes and stuff..

What would be really neat.. is that..instead of competing?

All of us work together. Send someone to one of Jupiter's moons.

Or..better yet..to the bottom of Earths Ocean and learn together everything there is to find out in a lifetime about our home and conserving our resources ..and even find something astounding and wonderful as a cure for disease..or a way to alleviate famine.

And at the same time learn to appreciate the opportunity to understand and respect each other and our differences.

Wow..

My thinking is that the world would be boring if everyone was alike.

they're just gonna send a single indian to the moon?

how about a couple million?

Good Luck India. Make all brownies proud.

Don't steal American flag.

why go there in first place... it was a symbolic mission for both USSR and USA. Nothing was gained from the mission apart from a few kgs of lunar rocks. Heck , they didnt even have proper scientific mission objectives.
