Who says freedom only means enjoying rights? Freedom comes with responsibility. Responsibility to respect others sentiments. Freedom of speech may be best virtue in the world, but when it hurts others sentiments by fowl propaganda then such freedom is the biggest evil in human society.

So does that mean when people chant "Death to America" on the streets of Pakistan, that should be outlawed?

Or what if there is a political rally and people are chanting slogans against that person and that person's feelings are hurt, should that be outlawed to?

First was Salman Rushdie in 1989, then the Danish Cartoons in 2005 and now this video in 2012. That is a regular basis?

There was draw Muhammad contest on Facebook. Rushdie's Satanic Verses is just not one case of exploiting Muslim beliefs. There are novels on the lives of Prophet's wives (including novel on Hazrat Ayesh RA - I won't name as I don't want to publicise that rubbish)

There is a difference between saying something against a 2 cent politician and a personality like Prophet. Useless propaganda be avoided for any common human being or a religious leader.

Freedom of speech which hurt billions is not unalienable right. Its a right to those who are alien to human virtues.

If the video does not 'violate' Youtube rules it does violate 2+billion muslims sentiments, it insults a religious figure. Rules are made to accommodate audiences all around the world.

There are no 'leaders' in a mob protest, simple as that.

That is not true. Most protests are instigated by official or unofficial leaders. It just does not happen spontaneously.

I actually agree with this.

I don’t believe that the US government can or should be held to blame. Under US laws you are allowed to say anything apart from inciting physical violence - you can deny the Holocaust, insult Jews, call for the implementation of white supremacy and the subjugation of all other races, etc…

However, youtube is a commercial venture owned by Google. Even the US government has asked Google to remove the video from youtube and Google has refused - it is google which should be held to blame.

Google had bought youtube because they believe that they could make money from it - they then instituted a very successful ad system on youtube which has generated much revenue for them.

Banning all of youtube denies Google income and hurts them a little in their pocket, because Google will no longer get income from Pakistanis clicking on ads on youtube.

Honestly, I think that Pakistan’s government should have banned not just youtube, but every single Google service that presents ads to users (except Gmail, due to the risk of economic damage to Pakistani businesses that have gmail email addresses).

This would be the equivalent of putting sanction on a country, except on a business.

However, one this balancing against this is that right before all of this video protest began, senior google executives had been visiting Pakistan and hinting that they will be opening up an office in Pakistan soon. In order to entice this and the IT jobs that come with it, Pakistan needs to look Google-friendly.

youtube and google are operating in America, they must obey to Laws and Regulation of America.

There could two reasons why this video cause outrage, first either the marketed this video to elicit such emotions from Muslim world or this video is hell different from the contents you are talking about.

A person who believes in freedom of speech will defend the same right for anyone regardless of its race, religion, nationality or sex. they will even defend that right for their enemies.

Now person who are killing and burning properties, can they say the same? Will they burn and kill for a movie like Da vinchi code or put head money on AQ khan who calls all ahmadis as traitors?

This is clash of liberal vs religious minds , nothing else. Right to speak freely is as sacred for a Westerner as prophet is for you guys.

I think everyone is getting it wrong including Hillary Clinton. There is a difference between Freedom of Speech and Hate Speech. The movie represents Hate Speech just as Anti-Semitism or denial of Holocost is considered Hate Crimes. Surely, they have found ways to shut people on these, they can very well ban the video for it being hate mongerer.

Except do you know how many anti-semitic and anti-holocaust theory type videos there are on youtube? I'm guessing a lot. There certainly are dajjal/end of times videos with all sorts of people pointing to other religions as being the ones that will screw it all up in the end of times. How is that not hate speech?

I've seen stuff being posted by muslims that makes me cringe, are we going to ban youtube for that garbage too?

^^^ Read my posts from beginning of this thread. Our leaders and public are very shortsighted including many here who were defending the ban on YouTube. YouTube ban in Pakistan had no impact on Google or YouTube, but it has deprived Pakistani public of information.
