YouTube blocked? so people cant "search and watch it"? Now if we expect people to do that, whats the fuss about? NO MUSLIM (in sane mind) will search for the video and watch it on YouTube and if he/she does, whats the point protesting against it?
and for you tube (and for many other western outlets), its about time that they start differentiating b/w FREE SPEECH and HATE SPEECH just like they do in case of Holocaust denial. Want to know the name of countries where you can be punished for just questioning/denying Holocaust?

Yeah why did the brits waste the tax payer's money on court proceedings over inflammatory facebook messages recently? Let's see how much other "grossly offensive" stuff on facebook, youtube etc they care about.

In this very case the clip itself is fuel to the fire, second and bigger source of fuel is the if the "khateeb" of local mosque and third , unfortunately, is media both traditional and non-traditional.
The anger in the Muslim world is justified and desirable however the energy out of this anger is not channelized and ultimately gets into the hands of mobs. We should understand mob mentality, a mob dos't have a leader, it does't have a clear intention or a clear objective, all it knows is to destroy what comes in its path.
There are more than one billion Muslims living in this world, many of these are in countries that are very rich and can easily put thumb on the supply lines of energy to the rest of the world, they are in position to get the UN to enact universal laws about religious blasphemy but the situation on the ground is different, our ruling class, entire Muslim Ummah, no excption, owe their status not to the people of a particular country but to the might of international arm twisters.
I don't blame people destroying their own countries, I don't even blame the molvi of the local Masjid because he is a product of the same system, I blame our ruling oligarchy, who gets its direction from their many Masters, rather than their own people and Allah who is testing them with a responsibility.

I am afraid we all are forgetting the bigger question here.
The issue is not the blocking of a particular site. It’s whether YouTube will remain blocked till eternity here in Pakistan if they do not take the videos down. If, at the end of it all, the Pakistan government is the one that budges and allows access to the site, it would be a very sorry episode - one that only provides free publicity and press all over the world, to the video itself.
And that’s without even taking into account that various ways people can unblock this, or most any, website.

Its not about stopping people from watching the video, because they can use proxy or go to some other site to watch. Blocking youtube (or that videos' link) is a peaceful way of registering our protest as a nation. I think govt has done a good job in doing so.

Yes, very true, that was my point.
If it’s a half-brick method, what Pakistan government (and PTA) has done, you either stick to it full time until your demands are met, or don’t do it at all. There are other ways to register your protest, severe ways even. I still vividly remember Wikipedia, Google and whatnot was blocked because of Prophet Muhammad cartoons a few years back. Now guess, what, they cartoons are still there, but every other website is back. Pakistan government had to yield.
I, ultimately, without condoning or condemning this, will just add that this episode of banning YouTube just reeks of fear from the government officials (from the radical religious groups), or a way for them (hint Prime Minister) looking for easy sympathy from the general public. Now if they stick to it forever, or make YouTube remove the videos, only then will I consider it a success. Because right now, the only stories I am reading on news sites is that 'Pakistan has blocked YouTube over - wait for it - blasphemous video. Emphasis on the words ‘blasphemous videos’. It’s just serving the vile creator of that video, in making him more famous.

I was being sarcastic. Its a ridiculously disproportional response. Think about it, the whole of the Muslim world is responding to some jackass's video. The guy who made this is probably laughing at the reaction.

Do you guys really think this will help the Muslim world? Do you really think people will suddenly stop disrespecting the religion? If anything, it's going to get worse.

Dont higher authorities of any other country respond to social media postings? PM is not responding to a YT clip, he is respodning to the sensitivity of general public.

But Youtube is not endorsing anything. Nor is the US government or any official in the government. It was one d-bag who made a movie. There are plenty of anti-Jewish and anti-Christian, hell even anti-American, videos on Youtube. Why not just ignore what you find offensive?
If this is so offensive to Muslims, I hope that most of us don't learn how to effectively operate Google because there is plenty of content on the internet that's offensive. Are you going to ask those websites to take that content down as well?
