PM-elect Gillani speaks to Parliament Parliament (Fish Market scene by audience)

Will some of our elected representatives ever learn how to behave in a civilised manner in parliament?

Parliament or Fish Market!!

Part 2

Pervez Elahi’s boring riposte *- *It’s no surprise he immediately compliments almost flatters the military in his opening remarks, That was unnecessary, almost bordering on khushaamad

We do not deny that the military is a very important pillar of the state. We all appreciate that they have an important job to do. Let them do their own thing and let the elected representatives/law-makers deal with governance and affairs of government. Why bring the armed forces in every discussion? Everybody seemed so disinterested in what he was saying.

Re: PM-elect Gillani speaks to Parliament Parliament or Fish Market

It was the people in the public gallery and not the elected member who were making the noise. Such incidents though regrettable do happen when feelings have been pent up for so long and when emotions are running so high. Such incidents also took place when the first PPP govt took office after Zia's demise. While during the following three govt change such incidents did not take place as there were no pent up feelings.

Re: PM-elect Gillani speaks to Parliament Parliament or Fish Market

Yeah you're right but something needs to be done to prevent this from happening in future. It was most irritating

Re: PM-elect Gillani speaks to Parliament Parliament or Fish Market

Such incidents have always happened throughout Pakistan's political history. That's the nature of Pakistani politics. It happened in the 1970's when the then intolerant government used it's henchman to physically throw out elected opposition leaders from the floor of National Assembly. Then again in the 1990's during the BB and Nawaz years, when both were at daggers drawn practically. Nawaz Sharif and his people made BB's first assembly pretty unworkeable, as they used to walk out all the time. Then during her second stint in power I remember vividly during a trip to Pakistan in 1995 I was in the visitors gallery of the National Assembly and PML Nawaz members were drowning down the speech of PPP appointed President Leghari, and thumping the tables etc. The PPP tried to get it's own back I remember in 1998 when PML N appointee President Tarrar addressed the assembly, but the PPP numbers were so paltry they were easy to ignore.

Re: PM-elect Gillani speaks to Parliament Parliament or Fish Market

Yes I remember one incident during a budget session (I think it was Mian Yasin Wattoo presenting it) in the late 80s, some of these jaahil MNAS started throwing chairs at each other during the debate and the live transmission had to be cut off after a while because the whole tamaasha was just so embarrassing for everyone.

But as rightly pointed out by Ehsan bhai the noise was coming from the people in the public gallery, probably some over-excited media men lacking in manners.

Re: PM-elect Gillani speaks to Parliament Parliament or Fish Market

Rezapehlvi,

As usual talk venom against democracy. Is it difficult for you to understand that people are fade up with dictatorship?

People should resolve their desputes in parliament not through killings by military or fascist organizations like MQM who has always supported dictatorships.

Re: PM-elect Gillani speaks to Parliament Parliament or Fish Market

This is no venom against democracy..This is the Venom against the "Jahil Politicians."

Re: PM-elect Gillani speaks to Parliament Parliament or Fish Market

I think Amin Fahim took a notice of that and urged the speaker to maintain discipline. That was the first thing he said during his speech today, then he extended his congratz to Gillani.

Re: PM-elect Gillani speaks to Parliament Parliament or Fish Market

Shameless behaviour. But there have been even worst cases of parliamentary behaviour as I said during the 1970's, when the govt side had the opposition leaders physically thrown out of the National Assembly.

Re: PM-elect Gillani speaks to Parliament Parliament or Fish Market

Can you quote with link or proof? Or this is as ususal your rehtoric against Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto? There is nothting wrong if people misbehave in parliament and resolve their disputes inside rather than settling score outside of parliament by killings, extortions, bhatta khori etc.......:(

Re: PM-elect Gillani speaks to Parliament Parliament or Fish Market

I think you have not read the whole news. These were not politicians but workers of PPP who were raising salogans. "Go Mush Go".

Re: PM-elect Gillani speaks to Parliament Parliament or Fish Market

Yes people go overboard at times but it is a 1000 times better than no noise at all in the govt circles where all decisions are taken in the dark of the backroom

Re: PM-elect Gillani speaks to Parliament Parliament or Fish Market

Let me also add before anyone starts talking about how sophisticated western parliamentarians are etc.

They are noit. They just dress better, spend a LOT more money and do a much better job of hiding their shenanigans

Re: PM-elect Gillani speaks to Parliament Parliament or Fish Market

All chairs and tables should be nailed to the ground.

Re: PM-elect Gillani speaks to Parliament Parliament or Fish Market

It is better than the shameless imposition of emergency, shameless massacre of the judiciary, shameless butchering of the media, physical attacks on TV stations. Rings a bell?

The difference is here people were letting our their emotions after 8 years of brutality, in the other incident it was all about saving ones kursi.
