PM diverts funds from Multan to his hometown

ISLAMABAD: The government has stopped funding development schemes launched by former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in his hometown, Multan.

According to sources in the Public Works Department (PWD), the decision was taken soon after development projects worth billions of rupees were launched in Gujar Khan, the constituency of Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.

“As the government has stopped funding Multan projects, a number of schemes remain incomplete although millions of rupees have been spent on them,” a PWD official said. He said the money already spent on the projects might go to waste.

Under the prime minister’s development package, the government released Rs10.9 billion during the last fiscal year for 3,966 schemes across the country. The highest amount was spent in Multan.

According to PWD documents, the government has approved around Rs8 billion development projects for Gujar Khan.

Re: PM diverts funds from Multan to his hometown

^ Dont you want the prime minister to win his seat in the next elections?

Re: PM diverts funds from Multan to his hometown

^ The country is a personal property of the ruling elite. What we want or deserve, doesn't matter.

Re: PM diverts funds from Multan to his hometown

If this ruling elite is in power then its all credit goes to people of Pakistan who vote them and elect them for the power.

Re: PM diverts funds from Multan to his hometown

This is when i wonder how an extremely hardworking honest and educated professional can ever compete against people who have millions to spend JUST for their election campaign knowing very well that the money belongs to poor people of Pakistan.

Re: PM diverts funds from Multan to his hometown

This is the most disappointing factor in our democracy. We cast vote just as they want us to do. The whole nation seems to be hypnotized. We are travelling in a vicious circle of misfortune.

Re: PM diverts funds from Multan to his hometown

Its about time that Gujar Khan had some money spent on it, as the people from there have done a lot for the country and contribute a lot each year to the national economy. I hope that the government also spends some extra money on Mirpur.

Re: PM diverts funds from Multan to his hometown

nothing new in this, this is how it works use public funds for your own personal interests, especially when the elections are around.

Re: PM diverts funds from Multan to his hometown

I have never gone to mirpur but have heard that the area is quite developed, especially it's shopping plazas?

Re: PM diverts funds from Multan to his hometown

The area is developed due the efforts of the local people but no thanks to the government. The government needs to do more, from having better airport, to providing better service by officials, to better roads to the area and within the area. These things only the government can do.

Re: PM diverts funds from Multan to his hometown

How have the people of Gujar Khan done more than others?

I am disappointed that money has been diverted especially from one of the more neglected areas of the country. It is not a case of who has done more for the country but a question of what has Pakistan done for certain areas and for South Punjab it has done very little.

Quite a lot of development work was going on in Multan. This would have had a knock on effect but sadly now everything would be knocked down.

Re: PM diverts funds from Multan to his hometown

The shopping plazas are developed yes but the people of Mirpur are still illiterate and uneducated as a whole. They have money due to so many of them being in Britain but there is very little social advancement. At least jobs have been created here and the workers tend to come from other parts of Pakistan.

Re: PM diverts funds from Multan to his hometown

Gujar Khan is a fairly small area, it is a tehsil of of Rawalpindi. It is a neglected part of Rawalpindi district. The contribution to the national economy per capita from such a small area is far greater than from places like Multan, where plenty of money is still being spent by the provincial government. The government has spent a lot on Multan beyond its share over the last 4 years, now if some of that money is spent on a neglected but important area for a few months then there should not be an issue about it. Nobody complained when money was spent on Multan, so why should people complain now that some of the money is actually going to the places from where it was taken to be spent on places like Multan.

Re: PM diverts funds from Multan to his hometown

You are stereotyping the people from Mirpur. Generally they are a lot more educated and successful than most Pakistanis will ever be. Therefore do I detect some jealousy, as instead of appreciating the development of the area you are criticising the people of that area for no reason. Do you believe that the people of Multan some of whom worship Gillani and others like him and call these thieves their pir are more educated?
