Oil Painting
I love oil painting and have used many differnt types of oils. I really depends on how seriuous you are about painting since this hobby can become quite expensive. Winton oils are pretty good to use IMO. You dont need each and every color out there since you can make your own colors using the basic few. This is a better idea because the flesh tint is very fake and the green tint is too Irish Spring green and no the green of landscapes.
You will need:
A very big tube of Titanium White (needed for lightening)
Payne's gray
Medium (Cadmium) Yellow
Cobalt Blue
Yellow Ochre
Burnt Sienna
Burnt Umber
Ivory Black
Crimson
Remember to buy a spatula for mixing and a disposable palette.
Before painting you should prime the surface, by this I mean mixing turpentine (high recommend the odorless version) witha dab of yellow ochre and lightly covering the 100% cotton canvas. Takes abt 1/2 an hour to dry.
If you are a novice, make a pencil outline first then start the painting process.
Do get good brushes. The "real" hairs are way too soft so its better to get synthetic brushes. You do not want very hard brushes nor do you want very soft ones (will give less precision).

For pencil drawing you need differnt pencils in differnt shades and thicknesses. Sketching paper or sketching books are good to draw on.
For oil pastels, you want them to be oily and not very dry.
