** Islamabad: The Additional District and Sessions Judge Manzoor Ahmed Mirza on Thursday issued notices to ex-prime minister Shaukat Aziz and Secretary Ministry of Finance Farrukh Qayyum to submit their comments and produce the record before the court for registering fake case against Dr Zahida Malik.

Dr Zahida Malik, General Secretary of Advanced Education Trust had moved an application before the court stating that ex-prime minister Shaukat Aziz and Farrukh Qayyum Secretary Finance Ministry had got registered a fake criminal case against her on March 10, 2003 under sections 420/467/468/ 471 PPC at police station FIA/SIU, Islamabad. The court had acquitted Zahida after finding her innocent on April 24, 2008. **The whole prosecution case was based on the photocopies of documents under the commanding instructions of Shaukat Aziz and Farrukh Qayyum, but they failed to produce original documents in support of their charges against the petitioner.

Zahida stated that she has suffered due to protracted trial, sustained injury to her high repute and also suffered mental torture and lost monetary benefits therefore Shaukat Aziz and others are liable to the proceedings of section 182 PPC.
The judge has issued notices to Shaukat Aziz and Farrukh Qayyum to submit their comments till July 27, 2008.
If all the stories in Pak newspapers are to be believed, Shaukat Aziz should be prosecuted for much bigger crimes: massive bungling of Steel Mills privatization etc. What the heck is this "fake case" nonsense? Is this the best that they can come up with? Or may be this is just a precursor of larger things to come. Either way, this appears a pretty lame case. Hopefully the powers-that-be will come up with more interesting material.
