Does anyone know what this is and where I can get it in the US? A friend of mine swears it’s the greatest he ever had, in India. The couple of bakeries I asked here never heard of it and the one brit I asked says she knows plum pudding but not a cake.
is he talking about the peela wala cake jis mein bohot saray color ke fruits ke pieces hotay haen? plum bhee hota hae, aur koi green color kee jelly type bhee…
its a typical desi cake…u wont find it in a western bakery…

In India they make it during Christmas, with lots of fruit pieces (tutty fruity) and RUM (liquor). I think it is called FRUIT CAKE.
I did show him the picture of typical fruit cakes (what you describe sounds like that - with multi colored jellied fruit) but that's not it.
Take a trip down to the indian groceries shop and ask them :p
Bavarian plum cake is what I found but I'm sure thats not what he is talking about.
Ok I got another one too but its just like an upside down pineapple cake just that plums replace the pineapple and you don't cook it upside down.. Maybe that's it.
I dont kno if this is it .. but found this one which sounds pretty close to wut u described.. so here it is ....
Plum Cake
1/2 cup butter
2 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1/4 teaspoon mace
1 egg, beaten
2 Tablespoons cold water
5 cups organic plums, halved and pitted
3/4 cup sugar
2 Tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 cup slivered almonds
Begin by preparing the pastry. Cut butter into flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, salt, lemon, and mace until mixture is fine crumbs. Mix egg and 2 Tablespoons cold water; stir into flour mixture. Press pastry into a ball; knead until smooth, about 5 times. Press evenly on bottom and side of an ungreased 9" cake pan.
Preheat oven to 375°. Place organic plums, cut sides down in pastry-lined pan. They will overlap slightly. Mix rest of ingredients, except almonds, and sprinkle over plums. Sprinkle with almonds. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until pastry is golden brown and dish is bubbly. Cool and Enjoy...!
