my daughter is 15months, and shes got a cold/cough, ive been in hosp last few days because of breathing issues and have now been diagnosed with asthma, i had croup when i was her age, and to try to prevent her getting same as me and help her, the docs recmmened humidifier, i rushed out and got one.
just for info can someone tell me if they ever used one or how l0ng it takes for it to start taking effects, mins or hours or days?
ITs a cool mist one.

Nadz croup is very very common in kinds of your daughters age, I saw case after case of croup in the last 8 weeks for every day in A&E and many of those kids got admitted, got better and went home.
Of course it is very distressing for the patents
Its something unavoidable but something that can be managed.
The humidifier will help keep your daughters air passages clear overall its not a minute day thing, but it probs will start helping within 24 -48 hours and help her shift out the gunk, main thing is keep her temp low with making sure you do not wrap her in 15 layers or sponging if she does get a temp, or you can use calpol as per dose written for her age and make sure she takes fluids.
Get rid of any pets, get the house dust free, dont spray aerosoles around her etc.

BECAUSE AALL doctors are closed, its bank holiday here and since u say jesus christ, you know what day it was yday as well, so everything closed. thats why i asked here. why does everyone have a problem with my asking anything.....i dnt care if you abuse all u want if its a thread about me and my so called silly problems, but my daughters health is very imp to me and il ask where i can whatever source is available. i know humidifiers help, just wanted to know how long it could take ......

I prefer the hot steam humidifiers over the cool mist ones. I add liquid Vicks to the water chamber. When the chest congestion/cough gets really bad, we "tent" with a towel...meaning, I take the kids into the bathroom with the door shut to keep the steam in, and have them cover their head with a towel while they lean over (but not too close!) the humidifier and inhale the steam....we do this about every 3 hours...works every time! Give it a couple of days, your daughter will be better!

Humidifier is not a medicine or a treatment for asthma, it can help keeping the air filtered and this is it. I hope you're not confusing humidifier with nebulizer?

^ an under 2 will probs be nebulized at hosp and the hosp would have given her one not been like 'go and find one' you cant just buy one like that from boots or anything, esp not the salbutamol that has to be prescribed.:)
ALso Nadz, the doctor use the words 'asthma' specifically, or use the word 'wheeze'?

nadz I used hot air humidifier for my sons when they had croup last year. I know the cough sounds horrible but it is nothing VERY serious and will soon be resolved. I used to hold them in my lap while they were asleep and sit near the humidifier with some vicks/menthol crystals added to the water. IA she will be fine soon

^what a useless post ! nadz is not asking about the procedure of open heart surgery with valve replacements and relying on replies here for recovery :halo: it was a simple croup and she told went to the doctor and got prescribed a humidifier and all she asked was how long will it take to be effective.
