Pls explain the difference: Matte/Shimmer

Salam all,

I am interested in ordering the 88 Coastal Scents palette, can someone pls explain to me in detail what the difference between matte and shimmer would be. I don’t really wear eye makeup on a daily basis… but if something is there that I could wear during the day and still be comfortable I would love that… also can one of them work both for day and night wear???

Matte eye shadows are shadows without any sort of glitter/shimmery/light reflecting particles are supposed to be highly pigmented. Shimmer shadows on the other hand, reflect light, are sheer compared to the matte ones. You can wear either during day or night time depending on the color. But usually it looks nicer to mix and match rather than wear all sheer or all matte :)

The shimmery ones always turn-out prettier..perhaps for everyday use you may line u’re eyelids with colored pencils and colored chubby pencils?

i think there is one palette that has both.

please buy on ebay though, coastal scents is charging way too much!

Oh i'm so glad someone asked this question! I know what the difference between matte and shimmer eyeshadow is but didn't know which one would turn out better/be more usable! Sometimes the shimmery ones turn out looking very cheap. But I'm glad that's not the case.

Stoppit, I looked for coastal scents on ebay but I found the prices higher than on the coastal scents website.

Also guys do coastal scents make a palette with both matte and shimmer shadows......

Gina, are you suggesting that I get the shimmer one and for day look just use pencils ... I was hoping to get one palette that would help me do day and night looks ...

^don't look for coastal scents. just look for an "88 palette".

these are not coastal scents own as they claim, they are from china and there are millions of 100% identical ones on ebay (you can buy them for less than £10).
you can probably buy both (shimmer and matte) from ebay for the price of one from CS.

eye make-up usually requires a mixture of matte and shimmer shadows for a nice look. matte's are quite hard to work with.. shimmers are more versatile on the whole.

Yes, I was suggesting that u purchase the shimmery ones..they turn-out better. many of us don't wear eye-shadow during the day..and if u really want to add some color to u're eyes.. buy a few chubby eye-pencils.

I have the 88 palette that is a mix of matte & shimmer....majority of the colours I use from it are the shimmer ones. I find shimmer shadows are easily to blend, but I do still use matte, especially as my highlighter, I dont like shimmer under my brow bone
If you are still unsure of what the colours look like, try looking up a swatch review on youtube of the palette, Im sure you will find something!

thank you ladies for helping out... I thought coastal scents made these ... if thats the case I will buy two from Ebay inshAllah...

@ Gina: i've seen ladies wearing like colored eyeliner that they have used the chubby pencils for ...is that what you are talking about as a daylook....

@pf : yeah I kinda figured that out from what they are called as well..... :)

Yes! :) Get a few pretty and fun colors like lavender, turquoise.. seagreens and silver..
