Pleasing who?

I was at jumu’ah a certain period of time back and the Khateeb was speaking about the way our marriages are conducted. They made the point that our people always say that they are compelled to do certain acts otherwise “what will people say” or that so-and-so will be upset and stop speaking with us.

The Khateeb further explained that you worry about what people will say and about displeasing the relatives but is ALLAH Ta’ala less in your eyes than people that you don’t care what HE says? Is ALLAH Ta’ala less in your eyes that you seek to please people while displeasing HIM?

Too often we lack courage in making the changes necessary in our own lives because we fear what the people will say.
Oh look at him, he’s become a maulvi.

*Oh he thinks he’s a saint now but I know the real him. He used to do this, this and that.

Oh he’s gone extreme now, thinks he’s better than everyone, it’s just an act, I remember the jokes he used to say blah blah blah*

If that were the case then no1 would ever change for the better except in those spheres which are deemed “acceptable” to the people.

Everyone is going into their own grave, no 2 people are going to be questoined together, no other person is there to help you.

I think the major problem is that we forget our death. We think that what happens in this life is important, because if we truly saw this life for what it is we wouldnt be the people we are, right?

There’s a line that’s in my head, I dunno if its from somewhere I’ve read or if I made it up but:

“60 years of struggle for an eternity of bliss”

*sounds pretty plain innit but for me it seems so deep. if you think about it, 60 years is nothing, we’ve studied history at school and we skim through centuries in a few lessons, but an eternity - now thats something. *

U know what the dumbest thing is? We already KNOW how short and pointless this life is and that we’ve got our Final Destination but still we set up camp here.

May ALLAH Ta’ala grant us all ability to use our time wisely and make preparation for the akhirah and not be decieved by this world as many before us have been decieved. ameen
