My problem is due to using BADDDLY expired shampoo, yes i have done the mistake and i beg all of you to never ever use an expired shampoo ( you can tell by the consistancy,it would be runny and smell odd! its just too obvious) but i never paid attention and so is my family just cause it was freaking expensive so we continued using it for about 2months and since 2years im facing the problem, actually not just me my mum and sis too!!! we just never thought shampoo could be harmful aswell..I cant think of anything else apart from my hair now plus im getting married in January, please guys help me:( i badly need a help..and also i wanted to know if you have got fungus kinda thing on your scalp is it visible? like can you tell by looking at it??

Re: Pleaseeee please help meee my hair driving me crazy!

i think a visit to the doctor will help you answer a lot of these questions.

Re: Pleaseeee please help meee my hair driving me crazy!

Yes, fungal infections on the scalp can be visible. I've heard that sulphates used in shampoos can cause some peoples hair to fall out, so perhaps trying a sulphate free shampoo will help? I hope it gets better for you sooooon x

Re: Pleaseeee please help meee my hair driving me crazy!

@Pyari si bachi,Actually the place i live have horrible doctors! they just say if you have bald patches we can give you medication for that otherwise NO CURE! i dont know what to do:(

@ArshH, Thank you!! I just got the Nioxin shampoo but it badly suck! it made my hair in the worst condition...i really need to look for a SLS free shampoo now!

Re: Pleaseeee please help meee my hair driving me crazy!

I can't say Nizoral will definitely help but I suggested it a couple of years back (there's a thread somewhere). Lots of people came forth to say it worked for them and also for the people who tried it for the first time. It should help with the itchy, flaky scalp. The wiki info also says it helps hairfall in men. Its active ingredient basically treats fungal infections.

So yeh, try it asap. This is the way I used it because you need to get it on the scalp. It is a shampoo but its main purpose is not to wash your hair. So take a little bit of another shampoo and pre-was your hair with it, to get rid of some of the oiliness. Then apply the nizoral and try to really work it into the scalp, you don't need to apply to the lengths. Probably use about three amounts, and concentrate on one part of the head at a time, rather than take a lot of shampoo at once and try to put it all over. Let it sit for 5 mins and then wash out. You can shampoo the lengths with another shampoo if you need to but it shouldn't be necessary.

Use it 2-3 times a week for the first two weeks and then gradually start to wind down usage.

Thank you so much stoppit!! You always have been soo helpful!!
I think i really have to try Nizoral shampoo BUT i just checked the ingridients online and it contains SLS in it..i thought it wont be having any kind of those ingridients which usual shampoo has..and do you know where can i get Nizoral shampoo in the UK?

Re: Pleaseeee please help meee my hair driving me crazy!

Hey g_g, you know the fear against SLS is largely unfounded and doesn’t have much of scientific basis. Some people may find SLS free may work better for them but I imagine it would be the same people who get irritation from things like hand soap etc. SLS is what does the cleaning, so it’s a pre-requisite in most shampoos. Ketoconazole is the active ingredient.

Nizoral should work for your problem. You can get it from Boots, just ask at the pharmacy section. If it doesn’t improve things after 4 weeks, try Neutrogena T-gel. Both these two shampoos treat a different kind of fungal infection but I’ve found Nizoral works for most people.

If you want SLS free, naturally thinking has some shampoos. But to be honest, most SLS free just replace with another sulphate. And the completely free ones don’t seem to clean as well.

Just continue as normal for now, with the nizoral. Usual shampoo as a light prewash. Only thing that makes prolonged contact with the scalp should be the nizoral. And then shampoo the lengths if you need it. Once this issue is sorted, perhaps you can switch to SLS free.

Re: Pleaseeee please help meee my hair driving me crazy!

I took Stoppits advice a long time ago and Nizoral was a life saver. I used it exactly as she has described it above. I had an itchy scalp and it went away. I did not even use it everytime I shampooed my hair. Just like once a month and it worked.

Another remedy for the dry scalp/itchiness is filling a large bowl with 1 part apple cider vinegar and 3 parts warm water. AFTER you have already shampooed and conditioned your hair like normal - pour the bowl of the mixture (water + apple cider vinegar) onto your scalp slow... make sure your head is tilted and eyes are closed. Take breaks and massage it into your scalp. Let it run down through your hair I noticed that this remedy (which I also got from someone on GS ... was it you stoppit?) also worked miracles. After doing this a few times I did not even have to use the Nizoral shampoo. The smell of it is terrible but DO NOT RINSE YOUR SCALP/HAIR after this. As your hair dries, the smell of the apple cider vinegar will also evaporate.

Avoid hair dryers, straigtners, curlers, etc. ..... i have noticed that applying a TINY bit of Morrocan Argon oil into my hair (mostly the tips/ends) has really helped condition my hair. And i do not have to use any other products in regards to styling. .... so the less chemicals the better.

Lastly- My dermatologist told me to take Biotin and MSM supplement. The combination will strengthen your hair root, prevent future hair loss (the type which is more than the norm) and also helps hair grow faster.

These supplements are harmless and over the counter. My hair was falling out so much that my doctor made me cut it to over the shoulders .. to give my scalp some rest while it got better. Taking these supplements, my hair grew back...longer than ever within a year. People were amazed.

Good luck to you. And try to STRESS LESS ... you said your wedding is coming up.. this can also seriously attribute to your severe hair loss! It is amazing what negative things stress can do to your body!!!

Re: Pleaseeee please help meee my hair driving me crazy!

Try using Regaine. It's a solution you rub on your scalp and massage. Also try to wash your hair every other day, don't let your scalp to get too greasy. A mild shampoo like Johnson's baby shampoo might help. The dandruff issue can be cured by applying yoghurt.
