Re: Please

people are turning into couch potatoes when it comes to language. afternoon became 'aft', avenue became 'ave, information became 'info etc...we are all lazy when we use abbreviations.

we use 'please' because it's short, it's precise and it's understood by a large population in our subcontinent.

i lived in Lucknow and AligaRh where Muslim culture and Urdu is quite dominant among Muslims and to some extent among non Muslims.

we say 'please' to people who understand English words, 'az-reh-e-navaazish/karam" to Urdu speaking older generation.

Hindi has a precise word for 'please'. we use that word to Hindus...that word is:
**
Kripya = please
dhanyavaad = thanks**

some widely used and widely understood English words [with Urdunized/Hindinized versions] are spoken as such because they are short, precise and easy. like:

gilaas [glass]
singal [singal]
pilait [plate]
layen [line]
pen
plaitfaaram [platform]
TikaT [ticket]
tarain [train]

etc

Re: Please

French has two phrases sil vous plait and sil tu plait (spl?) one is formal others informal but urdu has no quick word to be polite, ye saare jumlay jaan nikaal dete hain lol
