The Second Floor opened its doors in 2007 as part of Peace Niche. It is a café, cultural space, community center, performance area and art gallery all rolled into one. Although small, its doors are open to all: students, artists, writers, poets, musicians, anyone with an interest in social change through democracy, cultural activities or public discourse.
**The Second Floor is the brainchild of Sabeen Mahmud. She was assassinated in 2015 after hosting a discussion on a current human rights issue in the café.
