yeh toh apna apna hai hosla, yeh toh apni apni urdhan hai… koi urdh kay reh gaya baalm tak kooi kehkashaan se guzar gaya. - Amir Khusro
can someone please translate that into simple English?

First of all, this she'r is NOT of Amir Khusrau [r'A.]
secondly, the way u have written it is not the right format. it should be written as:
yeh to apnaa apnaa hai Hausla, yeh to apnii apnii uRaan hai
koii uR ke rah gayaa baam tak, koi kahkashaaN se guzar gayaa
its a very nice she'r, indeed! i do NOT know the name of the shaa'ir [poet]
Translation:
this is one's inspiration and this is one's flight of thought
some go up as high as the balcony while some go past the milky-way
the meaning:
the poet says that one gets what one strives for, all depending on how much energy and effort one puts in in his endeavours. in short, Allah rewards those who strive in His path according to his efforts, convictions, intentions and abilities :)

Re: please translate?
thank u so much!
i figured it was by Amir Khusrau because i heard it in NFAK’s qawalli which was written by AK.
Nami Daanam Chi Manzil on Vimeo (forward to 8:55) that is the sher i posted here.
thanks again
**salaam,
i think this is the problem…qawwaals these days, in order to promote their qawwaali, take a line or two from the legendary Amir Khusrau’s [r.A] Ghazal/qawwali/geet and then the rest of the kalaam is someone else’s…its NOT fair and its kinda cheating as well…people look at Amir Khusrau’s name and buy the CD/DVD then find out that its just a line or two from his kalaam.
same thing happened here. ONLY this line is from Khusrau’s famaous Ghazal in faarsii:
na mii-daanam cheh manzil bood
the rest is in urdu and mediocre…not fair at all:
the Ghazal what i remember is like this:
na mii-daanam cheh manzil bood shab jaaye k man boodam
ba har-soo raqs-e-bismil bood shab jaaye k man boodam
pari paikar nigaare, sarv qadde, laalah ruKhsaare
Saraapaa aafat-e-dil bood shab jaaye k man boodam
Khudaa Khud meer-e majlis bood, andar laa-makan Khusrau
MoHammad shamm'-e meHfil bood shab jaaye k man boodam**
