I will watch out for replies here, I could learn a thing or 2 here. I never understand what the fabric difference is either, or which is suitable for a shalwar/trouser.

Shamooz silk is satin as far as I know. I described it in the above link.

but its much lighter than satin in feel

I don't know what it is then. Maybe kingme can tell us what it's called in English. Or perhaps tell us what satin is called in Urdu.

Respected madam,
these are chinese fabric and have names in only 2 languages (english and chinese).
shimoos silk have different structure and gram , and satin has different structure and grams.
shimoos silk has more grams of silk as compared to satin thats why it has higher price and is far better then any other kind of silk fabric.

if u want to know what type of fabric shimoos is please see any good indian movie, most of there bed sheets are made of shimoos to give it a luxurious effect.

We call that fabric Satin here in the UK. If you buy bedsheets like the ones you describe, it's generally satin (sometimes silk) and it says so on the packaging. Never heard of shimoos/shamooz outside of Pakistan.

handbags - yes! I was trying to think if it was a mispronunciation/spelling but was drawing a blank. Reading the definition of it, it has a satin weave (and therefore the same look as satin - shiny of the front, dull on the back) but is softer and lighter in weight.

I'm pretty sure most bedding and stuff uses regular satin - this stuff sounds too delicate.
