Playing MP3 Player in the Car using FM Transmitter

How many of you do it? How is the sound quality playing through an FM radio station (88.3??) Any complains? Any interruptions/noise, etc?

Re: Playing MP3 Player in the Car using FM Transmitter

Using FM transmitter, the sound quality sucks pretty bad.

If at all possible, and you are serious about listening to your MP3 player in the car, then consider getting your car hardwired to the Aux connection in your stereo player. Shouldn't cost a ton, and you will enjoy a much better sound (not to mention access to steering controls etc).

Re: Playing MP3 Player in the Car using FM Transmitter

Where do I get this done Faisal? A local best buy store maybe?

Re: Playing MP3 Player in the Car using FM Transmitter

my brother just hooks up a cassette w/ a wire attached to it to his iPod and it plays the music via the "cassette player"

Not sure what the techie terminology is for that :D

Re: Playing MP3 Player in the Car using FM Transmitter

Hooking up with cassette player adapter is the easy and clearer option, compared to FM transmitter, but it may not work in all cars (lack of cassette player, or cassette player hidden behind Nav screen etc).

Asif, yes. Pretty much all electronics stores offer MP3 installation. What it means is hardwiring to the Aux of your stereo (assuming your stereo has the Aux slot open) and also providing for the recharging of your MP3 player. That way you just pop your MP3 player in the slot in your car and then can use it through stereo controls, while it will recharged while it plays. You can do the installation yourself (Google for instructions and part numbers) but if you are not too familiar with opening the dash board of your car and basic understanding of wiring etc, then you may just want some professionals to do it.

FM transmitters are arguably the easiest solution, but the sound quality is pretty bad, as I said before. Depending on static distrubances in the area it can be as bad as not being able to hear anything (except an annoying static sound), much less try to enjoy the bass and treble and the acoustics of your favorite singer/podcast/etc.

we got a thing from radio shack. it was ...ok. NOT fantastic but kaam hogai. But we live in nyc and only use the ipd on the car on road trips not daily.

Re: Playing MP3 Player in the Car using FM Transmitter

I've got an Ipod and i use a belkin fm transmitter....it works like magic.

Re: Playing MP3 Player in the Car using FM Transmitter

I had used Belkin initially. Very poor results. Plus it requires its own battery, which will be an additional item to worry about. I have also used Xtreme Mac FM transmitter that hooks on top of iPod and requires no additional battery. Used power from iPod, or rather drains it. Only practical if you have a car charger for iPod connected as well.

Re: Playing MP3 Player in the Car using FM Transmitter

i usualy stick my ipod in my car when i go on long distance...the RCA wires coming out from my cd deck are used to hook up my ipod usualy....I cant wait till the hard drive based car deck's get cheaper!

Re: Playing MP3 Player in the Car using FM Transmitter

there are different kinds of fm tuners…belkin has over 4 of em…

Re: Playing MP3 Player in the Car using FM Transmitter

I tried the one which was $39.99 (**this one **). Not sure which one are you using. My experience was not good.
