I have found it. Your videocard has a HDCP chip onboard. ![]()
I never knew some of the X1XXX series have hardware support for full HD ![]()

Off course! All the new cards have support for HDTV. But it was the codec which did the trick for me.
Re: Playing full HD 1080 scale videos on PC
not true! only a few have the hdcp CHIP. :D Check the table I posted before :) The X1650 is an older DX9 card and the 8800 series is a newer model. Yet the x1650 is better at playing HD video. :) Besides that, not all X16XX series have the HDCP chip :D
Re: Playing full HD 1080 scale videos on PC
how do I know that I'm watchin' a 720 or 1080 movie? Where are the preferences to adjust this?

Thanks for the info. That was indeed an eye opener. I knew that all ATI cards having AVIVO technology support 1080p but did not know that nVidia was lacking in this respect. I just read that nVidia implemented this technology (PureVideo HD) in the 8600 and 8500 series cards. It is not even available in 8800!
My older 9600XT was also capable of displaying 780p/1080i HD content without a hitch as well.
