Players who would be considered greats of the game but

for the fact that they started too late for some reason and hence did not have long enough (decade long atleast) cricketing careers

recent examples that spring to mind

  • Michael Hussey
  • Saeed Ajmal (will probably get 200 test wickets at most)

re: Players who would be considered greats of the game but

Misbah may not have exactly become a great player but he definitely got lost in the system (? Inzi/? PCB's fault)
IMO he's good enough to have regularly played test cricket for Pakistan in the 2000s (maybe even late 90s)

Re: Players who would be considered greats of the game but

Brad Hogg / Hodge ???

Re: Players who would be considered greats of the game but

Barry Richards

Re: Players who would be considered greats of the game but

Would have been great players....

Mark Ramprakash
Marucs Trescothick
Mohammad Amir
Basit Ali
Asim Kamal

Re: Players who would be considered greats of the game but

Mark Ramprakash was given more than enough chances under different English captains (stewart, Atherton and Nasser) but just like Hick (both scored heavily in county games), he couldn’t cut it at international level

52 tests and a poor average of 27

Padmakar Shivalkar and Dilip Doshi were unfortunate to be contemporaries of the great Bishen Singh Bedi - in any other era, they would have been a shoo-in and probably very successful.

Syed Kirmani almost faded due to Farookh Engineer's domination, but when he finally got a chance, he grabbed it with both hands and was a star - could have been greater if given a chance earlier.

Salim Durrani had the tools to be a Sobers (OK not quite Sobers, but a great all rounder). In his case, it was lack of discipline.

Re: Players who would be considered greats of the game but

He definitely would have been one of the greats if he had played test cricket. It was a treat to watch him bat.

Re: Players who would be considered greats of the game but

Interesting choice with Basit Ali & Mohammad Amir. One went down fighting against match fixing, other was actively involved in it. Opposit sides of spectrum, somehow yielded same result ... end of career.
