I will disagree. Anywhere where there is suppression of a certain thing, that thing will just explode, and it will happen, but it will happen underground. If for example, in our desi culture, it’s in a way forbidden to have a friend of the opposite gender, so when you meet a guy/girl, you don’t automatically see them as a friend. You see them as potential. Switch to a society where it’s alright to be friends with the person of the opposite gender, when two people meet, they don’t necessarily meet each otehr with the desire to bed them right away. In such a place, platonic love is more possible.

I think it can exist. I think another thread discussed this and brought up a point about having boundaries. I have a friend like that. I usually talk to her about serious stuff. Often, I’ll go months without even hanging out with her or texting or anything, but we’re still friends. I don’t ask her to hang out with me every weekend etc. I think her boyfriend kind of resents how I can like instantly start joking around with her so I consciously try to keep my distance and respect their relationship. As long as people respect their friend’s romantic relationship I think a platonic one can exist.

And I have never wanted to hit on her or anything. She might have liked me initially but I’m not sure about that. She’s just one of the guys to me.
