Planned Parenthood

Hello all,
I started a thread earlier for not wanting pregnancy for 6 months to 1 year. As you suggested, I did talk to my fiance’ and I did not answer his calls and he agreed, hehe.

The only reason he’s worried is the complications afterwards. So, I did call “Planned Parenthood” and they gave me information. So, any suggestions? Should I go to “Planned Parentood” or my doctor? As I barely have 8 days before leaving the country and the girl at the PP said it takes about 7 days for birth control methods before they are effective.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Planned Parenthood

They are both going to give you birth control pills...so go to whom ever you are more comfortable with. Yes, it does take some time before birth control pill is effective.

Re: Planned Parenthood

I asked half of the question in my post, oopsie! So, there's BC pill and a shot. Shot is good for 3 months, whereas pill, you've to take it everyday. So, pill is risky, what if I forget or something? I'm thinking on shot. Any suggestions on BC pill or BC shot?

Re: Planned Parenthood

Thanks canadian! I think I'll go to Planned Parenthood.

Re: Planned Parenthood

According to what I have been taught about different birth control methods BCP is the safest and most researched type. Make your choice after talking about the advantages and disadvantages of all the methods. You should go into the Planned Parenthood clinic and have a chat about what works best for you.

Re: Planned Parenthood

The shots got more adverse effects than BCP, even though it seems easier to use. BCP's however to my knowledge (uni, doctor, friends) takes at least 1-4 entire cycles to be properly effective at preventing pregnancy and like CDG said, adverse effects are definitely less common.

Re: Planned Parenthood

Since it takes 1-4 cycles for BCP's to be effective, I don't have anytime. So, that's why I was thinking on BC schots. So, nobody has gotten the shot? One of my cousins did and unfortunately I dont talk to her anymore, so....

Re: Planned Parenthood

A couple of people here on GS ahve gotten the shot and they haven't liked what they did it to them later on (weight gain, spotting, fertility problems). Even shots would take time to properly work. Hormones take time to work and you're injecting yourself with hormones.

Re: Planned Parenthood

Ok so what should I do now as I'm getting married on April 30th.

Re: Planned Parenthood

Barrier methods would work the best in your case. IUD's and condoms to name the most common. There is the rythm method too. The best option for you would be to go speak to a professional who can give you more insight into this.

Re: Planned Parenthood

Shots sometimes cause fertility problems in the future. It has happened to my friend and she is still childless after 10 years of marraige. If you want to use pills and it takes a while for them to be effective, use condoms in the meantime. For a quick visit planned parenthood would be good, you may not get into the doctor's office for an appointmnet so soon. If you can, then the doctir is obviously more knowlegeable.

Re: Planned Parenthood

Since you want to wait for 6 months to a year, i think condoms or natural method is the best option! why not go for one of these?
I have no idea about the pills and shots, some people are lucky MashAllah as soon as they come off the pills etc (they conceive) while it takes years for others! May Allah Tallah bless everyone with healthy children Ameen!

Good Luck to you!

Re: Planned Parenthood

I'm scared now. I've talked to a girl and she said its totally safe. All mixed reviews. So, me very very worried. Condoms are not an option. What is natural method ms.adorable?

Re: Planned Parenthood

Why are condoms not an option?

To use the rhythm method, you simply track your menstrual history to predict when you’ll ovulate. In turn, this may help you determine when you’re most likely to conceive.

Re: Planned Parenthood

I have read up on this before I got married, and alot of infertility research shows that the shots can cause infertility, but the pill does not have any relation to infertility.

The shots literally shut down your reproductive system, so thats why their is a chance that it can cause infertility, because not everyones body will naturally just start it again once the shot wares off. With the pill, it just stops your ovulation while you are on the pill, and makes the cervical mucous thicker so the sperm cant reach the uterus. Once you are off the pill, your ovulation will start up again. I suggest you start the pill as soon as possible. It does take 7 days to be effective, and of course there are side effects with everything. The only option that doesnt have any side effects is to use condoms.

Re: Planned Parenthood

Try condoms i say. Safe and no side effects. :)

Re: Planned Parenthood

dunno how to explain :(

Re: Planned Parenthood

So most of you girls use BC pills? Coz, now I'm thinking of pills rather than shot coz of infertility.
