Plane crashes in Greece due to unconscious pilots

In Greece a plane crashed allegedly because the pilots passed out. All 121 on board are dead.

How can this even happen? Can’t the pilots reduce the height of the flight when oxygen is low?

It didn’t crash because the pilots passed out. :rolleyes: There was some technical problem which caused a malfunction in oxygen supply and air pressure.

Exactly right. They should drop below 10,000 feet immediately, which makes oxygen a non-issue, and if temperature becomes a problem, drop even lower. The story makes no sense.

something drastic must have happened. I even read somewhere the not only the pilots but ALL passengers and crew were probably DEAD , even before the plane hit the mountain. If decompression occurs above 30000 ft, the total time before you lose consiousness is 15 seconds MAXIMUM, because of lack of oxygen.

It takes a while to realize what has gone wrong. Then even if you take counter measures it is IMPOSSIBLE to drop 20,000 feet in 15 seconds. Doing so would break the aircraft into pieces, because of the stresses.

If decompression had occured, the emergency oxygen masks should have automatically dropped in front of them. At least that is what we are led to believe.

There are cockpit warnings when cabin altitude goes above 10,000 or 12,500, or what ever the warning system is designed to. Pilots have quick-don masks in the cockpit, which only takea second or two.

But the F-16s flying close to the plane could not see any movement in the cockpit. Let's see what they find from the Black Box.

I would like to add this may have been a case of pilots hotboxing in the cockpit.... Conteplate it people.........

BBC reports that eye witness have seen dead bodies wearing oxygen masks. One unfortunate passenger sent an SMS message to his/her cousin.
