Plan to build ‘Film City’ (in Lahore) final

LAHORE: Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has devised a comprehensive plan to construct Film City in collaboration with the Film Directors and Producers Association, said PHA Co-ordination Director Asif Zaheer.

“The project is a joint venture of Tajdeed-e-Lahore and PHA and will start soon after the Tajdeed-e-Lahore committee’s meeting which will be held later this month,” said Asif, adding that Punjab chief secretary will chair the meeting.

He said that PHA director general suggested the project for which Amjad Farzand will be the media co-ordinator.

He said that the Film City will be constructed from Macleod Road to Royal Park, with Royal Park as the main hub where a film library, film museum, film gallery and a theatre will be constructed to promote the film industry.

The project will emphasise increasing the viewers of local films by providing a favourable environment where the people can enjoy local movies with their families.

“Standardised billboards will be erected in the city for directors to advertise their upcoming projects,” said Asif.

Renowned film director Hassan Zuberi stressed the importance of building a film laboratory to compete the international market and said that the Film City would give a fresh breath to the dying film industry.

Talking about the outdated equipment being used in the Pakistan film industry, Hassan said “We are using 60-year-old BL4 Cameras which are now obsolete in the international market, even in our neighbour country.

If we are provided with new equipments, we can compete in the international market.”

Director Asif Khan also declared the City a healthy step towards reviving the Pakistani film industry’s old days.

Re: Plan to build ‘Film City’ final

I hope that Pakistan's film industry stops copying India and actually makes Pakistani films. A good step would be to make more films in local languages like Pashto Sindhi, and Punjabi. We need to start promoting our local cultures. And if our pashto movies are good we can start advertising them in afghanistan too.

Re: Plan to build ‘Film City’ final

I don't see how this is going to help the film industry. I don't think this move will drive away illiterate people and jaahil people from the industry. I don't think it will get rid of cheapness. When producers and directors stop picking up girls from the red-light district, only to sleep with them in exchange for putting them on the screen, when producers invest in good strong scripts, when these guys realize that the world is not totally and only comprised of punjabis running around in bright purple dhotis, and when they grow some self-respect and pride of their muslim heritage and decide to actually use names like "Sana" "Ahmed" "Rukkaiya" "Zainab" for their characters instead of "Pinky" "Sweetie" "Candy" or whatever hell names they come up with - that's when the film industry will get some respect and popularity.

Re: Plan to build ‘Film City’ final

^^ Oh get off it....that Reema film with its Belaas and Babloos is what caught your fancy.

Re: Plan to build ‘Film City’ final

I think you need to let things go, since you can't understand them in the first place. I like the idea of a female doing direction. I haven't seen the movie, so I can't say its a masterpiece, and neither have I actually said it was. Just thought it was cool that Reema did something.

Re: Plan to build ‘Film City’ final

^^ So it was “cool” she made another turkey? I can bet you’ll enjoy those little masterpieces Shamim Ara has been making for the last 2 decades :hehe:

Re: Plan to build ‘Film City’ final

If the jahil and illiterate people who are totally incapable of making films then why don't the so called educated people come forward and make films or we are just totally incapable of making films.

The educated lot are always critizing the film industry but what have they ever done to put things right.

Coming to Reema she has made a good film. The film has had really good reviews. Just read some of the reviews in the English press. I have actually seen the flick here in the UK.

Why are we so critical of ourselves.

Re: Plan to build ‘Film City’ final
