Since you all have such original ideas, I get to bother you again.
I am having a dinner party this Sunday.
No limits people.. build whatever themed menu you like.
this time though, I would like to have a unique salad and non-desi dessert.
thanks!

Re: Plan a Menu (2)
My abbu is inviting his office folks to our place and they are all multicultural folks so last night we decided on a very unusual menu that could cater everyone's taste and liking. Apparently, everyone in his office loves seekh kabab and biryani so we'll have that.
I'll jot down the menu:
Appetizers:
salad, crackers, cheese, dip platter
deviled eggs
brushetta
some thing bite size with puff pastry dough
yogurt with cucumber and zeera
salad?? what type not decided yet
seekh kabab
beef pot roast desi style with turkish sesame seed bread
fries (because of some kids)
baked boneless chicken bites with fish masala and vegetables
sindhi biryani
and for dessert mango suffle with fruits and gajar ka halwa for desis
Re: Plan a Menu (2)
Try a Russian salad. I tried searching on Google and found 5 different ways of making it. The one that I've had contains potatoes and mayo.

Appetizer- smoked salmon and capers sprinkled with sesame seeds on puff pastry twist circles
Spicy Hummus on crackers with a slice of pickle (dill) and a peel of marinated pink ginger (the kind u have with sushi)
Salad- Chick pea and couscous california style. With chickepeas, chopped tomatoes, avacado, parsley, red onions, corn, walnuts and couscous cooked with raisins. Drizzle with citrus dressing before serving.
Main course-
Boneless chicken handi (boneless chicken cooked with tomatoes, green chillies, ginger, fresh corriander- leave a thick gravy, with a squirt of lemon juice before serving- cooked in a terracotta pot)
Dum walay galwat ka kabab- Like seekh kabob but marinated with raw papaya and cooked in a covered pot.
Red potatoes with dill- Cooked finely sliced with dill herb, garlic and green chillies
Spicy Shrimp Biryani- Like biryani yet made with medium size shrimp.
Plum chutney and mint cucumber raita-
Sheermal and Taftaan breads- You can get them frozen at Indian stores
Dessert- individual chocolate lava cakes, jasmine tea, vanilla flavoured kheer/rice pudding loaded with gellied berries.

TIRAMISU PARFAITS WITH TOASTED ALMONDS
A simplified version of the classic Italian dessert, this looks lovely served in parfait glasses for a change. The recipe features pound cake and cream cheese instead of the traditional (but harder-to-find) ladyfingers and mascarpone cheese.
1/2 cup coffee liqueur
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup dark corn syrup
2 tablespoons instant espresso powder or coffee powder
2 tablespoons plus 3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 8-ounce package cream cheese, room temperature
1 1/2 cups chilled whipping cream
1 12-ounce purchased pound cake, cut crosswise into 12 slices
Unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup sliced almonds, toasted
Combine 1/2 cup coffee liqueur, 1/2 cup water, 1/4 cup dark corn syrup, 2 tablespoons instant espresso powder and 2 tablespoons powdered sugar in small bowl. Blend well.
Combine 5 tablespoons espresso syrup, 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 8 ounces cream cheese in large bowl. Using electric mixer, beat until smooth and fluffy. Beat 1 1/2 cups chilled whipping cream and remaining 1/4 cup powdered sugar in another large bowl until stiff peaks form. Fold whipped cream into cream cheese mixture. Place 1 pound-cake slice in bottom of each of 6 parfait glasses or wine goblets, tearing and pressing pound cake to fit. Drizzle 1 tablespoon espresso syrup over each. Spread 1/3 cup cream cheese filling over each. Repeat layering with remaining pound cake, espresso syrup and cream cheese filling. Sift unsweetened cocoa powder generously over parfaits. Cover parfaits and refrigerate at least 6 hours or overnight. Top parfaits with toasted sliced almonds and serve.
