Taxila/jolian, khewra mines and Kalar Kahar are already been discussed in this forum besides there is a dam called khan poor dam near taxila and Qila Rohtas near jhehlum and Dena, a beautiful ancient fort to see. I travelled from Lahore to there 2001 and it took less than 3 hours. Rohtas Fort - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I’ve heard about the tomb of Shahabudin Ghauri is somewhere near Chakwal but haven’t visited it, have any of you been there?
Khan Pur Dam is a nice little place to visit, because of the greenery and isnt too far from the twin cities. Whenever we go there, its usually the ‘malta’ season and you can pay the bagh owners some money (do negotiate though) and goto their baghs and pick out oranges from their trees (of your choice) and fill them in a big basket they’d give you!
Ive been to Ghauri’s tomb. It is right off the Grand Trunk road next to the famous Rohtas Fort. They also put a replica of the Ghauri missile next to his tomb, dont know if its still there or not. They also had a picture of AQ Khan close to Ghauri’s
The Soon Valley in Khushab is a must visit. It is half an hour on from Kalar Kahar and near the village of Naushera (not the one in NWFP).
Theres something in Chao Saidan Shah which is in Chakwal.
Theres Panja Sahib in Hassan Abdal, Attock - its a sikh and muslim shrine - well worth a visit. In Wah theres Wah gardens. Taxila has been mentionned I guess. Somewhere on the G T Road theres a ***** Ka Muqbara - whores tombin Attock:-
^Wow....i lived there for more than 10 years of my life and never heard of those places, i'll definitely visit them next time i'm in pak....i remember visiting panja sahib when i was about 4 or 5 year old.
Becareful when you goto these old forts because lack of maintenance and preservation can cause some structures to fall down, and if you are a little too curious and go inside checking out stuff you better becareful. I heard of a case where a western tourist busted his head when he tried to 'historically and intimately connect' to some old relic door!
