Places to visit in London & Manchester

Okay dear guppies, I plan to have a short trip (like 10days) to UK. Please suggest some “Must See” places in Manchester and London. Please keep the list short as I said I wont be there for more than 10 days.

What will be the weather there now? i.e. October - November. Mild cold, very cold, very very cold, rainy ???

What is the best mean of transportation? Trains, taxis, or buses?

Do they have places for prayers in Malls etc? Where do I pray when I am not in hotel.

Any more suggestions regarding traveling to UK, like what to carry, what I can need there etc? e.g. Health Insurance, Umbrella, rain coat etc etc.

Re: Places to visit in London & Manchester

all of these
e.g. Health Insurance, Umbrella, rain coat etc etc.

it will b colder in Manchester so keep a hat n scarf too, as regards to the weather it will b and is cold
transportation- the tube in London n train service in Manchester

I don't know about London but in Manchester they didn't have places to pray in the malls, BUT u can ask at big stores like Marks and Spencer, BHS, Debenhams if they will b kind enough to let u use the disable changing room to pray as they are very big, for that u will need a lil compass so u r praying towards south east :D

as for must see places i will let others add to that :)

Re: Places to visit in London & Manchester

thank you so much sweetu.

I dont have international Health Insurance :frowning: - Let me see if I have any options to upgrade my current local insurance to international.

I will be taking warm clothes.

So praying can be a prob. hmmmm :hmmm:

Where are the UK guppies, why I am not getting any suggestions :asa: Be quick slackersss… help me plan my trip.

Re: Places to visit in London & Manchester

Make sure your shoes are very very comfortable.

What to see depends on your interests really.
Central London;
Natural History Museum
National gallery
Trafalgar Square
Tate Modern
Tower of London
Westminster Abbey
Walking tours of London
Big Bus company - open top bus tour
For shopping; Oxford Street and surrounding areas.
Parks; Hyde Park, Waterlow Park, Holland Park are all lovely.
Greenwich & the Cutty Sark.

If any of those interest you, I can go into more detail, or alternatively if you have specific interests then I can try to send you in the appropriate direction.

Make use of the underground, it's the quickest way to get to places. Unfortunately no, no prayer rooms in shopping areas in central London, at least not that I'm aware of.:(

Re: Places to visit in London & Manchester

^ I just bought some shoes right now about 15 mins back :D - they are comfortable.

My personal interest places can be historically significant places, or museum etc, n some nice shopping places.

A colleague of mine who was in London a month back, told me about some Bus which gives you tour of the whole London. You buy a pass/ticket and you get down from the bus where ever you want. Then when u want to move to another place, get on the same bus again. is that correct and a good way to go?

In Manchester I ll get some guidence, but in London i m going to be all alone. the places you listed in your post, are they all in London?

Do we get alot of halaal food restaurants there? How do u know which is halaal which is not? By name only? The fast food chains, like McDonalds n Burger King etc, are they all haraam? :-S

Re: Places to visit in London & Manchester

Hi FT,

eltopo has given a pretty comprehensive list of places. You can add the British Museum if you like museums and the Millennium Eye/Southbank area to walk around in - Big Ben/Westminster is on the other side of the river from here.

The Bus is the one eltopo mentioned - Big Bus Company. You can buy a 24hr ticket.

As for food. The big chains are not generally halal. But you shouldn’t have a problem finding halal cafe’s and restaurants; they will have a halal sign in the window usually. Otherwise there are lots of vegetarian and fish based options everywhere, especially for lunch sandwiches and salads.

Re: Places to visit in London & Manchester

Plenty to do in Manchester city centre.

The Arndale's alright, as is 'the printworks' right next to it. Always a good day out is Manchester.

Re: Places to visit in London & Manchester

If u want halal in London check out Edgware Road, right nr Oxford Street.. loadsssss of Arab restaurants and cafes along there :) There are some halal KFCs in a few Muslim areas as well but u will have to double-check..

Re: Places to visit in London & Manchester

Go to Maroush!!! :@:

Re: Places to visit in London & Manchester

Okay gals, thank you veryyyy much for your guidence. I am gonna keep eltopo's list with me. Oxford street seems to be a must see place. And Big Bus Open top is the bus I will look for there. The link stoppit shows the ticket price too which is not much for 24 hrs.

One more thing, how much cash should I keep in my bag while i m out in London? I am asking coz I am not aware of the prices there. I only heard its an expensive place. How much would be enough to cover the whole day expenses of food n bus/taxi/tube fare kind of small expenses.

Also how much should i keep when I am travelling? Like i may need at airport. Just give me an idea. 100-200-300 pounds?

Hotel etc I ll pay thru my debit card, for that i dont need to carry any cash.
