are to be distributed today at our work (rumours). I’m sure some of you have faced such days, how do you cope? Were you able to work that day at all? esp b4 distribution?

down sizin... thx 4 wishin
hey it wasn’t an “announcement” … can people share their experiences here??? :halo:
Our company downsized too once...not just on people but on branches. Our entire branch was shutdown with a choice of relocation. I'm glad it happened as it did or I may have never moved on.
Its all happening now, falling left and right, lets see who survives.
May Allah swt help those who are in trouble (and everyone else too).
You shoulda posted in C&A :nahnah: (it’s career related).
well… what can I tell you - I’ve only seen it happen once, and ultimately, I wasn’t affected… but these can be tough times… I bet in your office, all speculation is centered on trying to guess when the HR manager will be droping by to give ppl their walking papers ??
From what I’ve seen, its a very militaristic procedure - the manager gathers staff around… hands information packages on severence and stuff, and tells ppl that their access to building/computers etc. will be cut off at blah-blah time etc.
Again, I can’t really narrate a personal experience going through it, but this is what I’ve seen happen.
Depends from Company to Company, actually. But definitely productivity goes down, almost to a zero.
In most companies rumors start floating around before the actual P-Day. So people have a chance to be mentally prepared. Some of my friends who work in very high profile high tech companies went thru several rounds of downsizing in the last couple of years. If you have good skill set, you are never that worried.
On the other hand, a friend of mine was working for Applied Materials and was actually hoping they will lay him off, so he can take the severance package (which is fairly substantial) and go back to Pakistan and relax for a year or so before start a job again. He was actually hinting to his manager persistently, and finally got what he was looking for. Got severence and went back to Pakistan and, last I heard, is having a ball there.
In some companies, I have seen that the COO calls the employee in his room. Appreciates their work. Hands them the pink slip. Shakes hand and when the employee gets out of the COO's office, s/he is escorted by a security person back to his/her cubicle. Packing boxes are provided right away. Network access is already disconnected. Employee has one hour to clean up and is escorted out of the building. Thankyouverymuch.
aah, the C&A section. There are different meetings going on. I’ve seen this exercise quite a few times now and so far have survived
, yes the rumour does spread a day before. In our company, the manager comes by your cubicle and tells you that “we need to talk” or “we have a meeting in bla bla room at this time”. I don’t know what happens there, may I never know that :halo:
Aameen to that.
