The other day, I was making some biryani. It was raining, and this was Hawaii. I realize I only had a small potato left. Being this is Hawaii, we did have some pineapples. I was like…you know what…to hell with it. I threw in the same amount of cubed pineapple as I would normally do with potatoes. The friends really didn’t mind the taste. They said the mirchi level of the biryani and the beef boti taste went GREAT with the biryani.
Infact, we actually made raita out of pineapple as well. It was lovely!
I can imagine the pineapple tasting good, as I like pineapple in chinese dishes and on the pizza sometimes. I will definitely try it in my biryani next time. Although it might need to be the tinned variety as not all of us are lucky enough to live in Hawaii!!!
Btw, do you really live there?? You must be the only Pakistani!
Pineapple in biryani … as much as thats a scary thought , I am getting all excited to try it out … so same question as Mirch … at what stage do you add the pineapple … and does it not sort of totally mush up in the salan
^ I would not call it gross Hareem...I know I could not have pineapple or other sweet fruit in my savoury dishes all the time... but once in a while its nice for a change...:)
Will ask my wife to try that with a small batch. When did you add the pineapple though in the masala bhooning stage or layering stage ?
I threw in the pineapple towards the END of the masala bhooning. The Pineapple lost enough juice to create good consistency, yet not be too wet when eaten. It doesn't shrivel up too much either and it DEF does NOT break up or get mushy. I would recommend you not get the tin can pineapple but that's just me being a pure food freak.
And no, I travel pretty consistantly, but love Pakistani food. Unfortunately we don't have pakistani food everywhere so I have developed a love of cooking. I can't imagine living in Hawaii though... No one does ANYTHING productive. You can't even get your ID renewed for example, as it takes forever. :P
I dont even enjoy cashew-nuts in my biryani and here you are asking for pineapple - it cant go well with the desi masalay - the juiciness would kill the spicy texture
